A is completely bonkers, and great fun! I'm reading that it's a Magma tribute, which makes me want to explore Magma a bit more, but I wonder if the Japanese influence lends an added attraction.

B is pretty much prog in length only. I suppose it has some nice moments, but it doesn't hold my attention for five minutes, let alone 14.

British Sea Power can do one! Its just a complete and utter mess and a direct rip-off of one of the most perfect records ever, Texas Jerusalem Crossroads.
A is the soundtrack to a myriad of 60's kids TV programmes, sung by puppets with a sinister bearded bloke in a turtle neck in the background. With a live artist brushing broad strokes resembling cows on Mars. Yeah, I remember my first acid trip.

A is great - totally bonkers, but I really really enjoyed it!

B has some excellent moments, but as a whole, it's not, and I didn't.

I agree with kath - I am not a Magma fan and this is a little bit too challenging for me.

I am never keen on 'operatic' vocals and while some of the instrumentation is interesting the whole package as it jumped here there and everywhere was somewhat disconcerting.

The best thing was the tubs which were very robust.

I suppose it's saving grace when the vocals shut up and the track progressed was a similarity to Henry Cow which earns them a point to my ears.

Yes, it got better as it progressed - and would have made a better instrumental track.

I have no desire to revisit Magma...

Finally, it reminded me of that Gentle Giant compilation album title: Pretentious

British Sea Power - 14 minutes - it needs to be good....

How many voters will listen to the whole lot?

Me [hopefully] - I'll give the youngsters a chance

Almost two minutes in - has it started yet...?

Whispy vocals that aren't always to my liking.

Is it just me or does the lad sound like Bowie...?

I'm not enjoying this very much

I promised myself I wouldn't abstain but I can't bring myself to vote for either at the moment.

Ok, British Sea Power - you have two minutes to pique my interest and then, if not, I'm going to vote for the other lot because of the GG Pretentious link....!

Two tracks I can't ever feel I want to hear again. Sorry

I'm finding myself agreeing pretty much with every word that C said, except that I probably like the British Sea Power a little more than he did, but it's still not something I'll be in any rush to listen to again. A had some bits that I liked but I don't really need a Magma tribute band in my life, I tried with the original band and couldn't get to grips with them at all.

A No. Really no. Stop.
B I do like BSP. I nearly went to see them do a gig on the Cutty Sark a few years back. And they did a fine soundtrack to the film From The Sea To The Land Beyond.

A was fun, a mixture of the weirdness of Magma with the playfulness of Zappa.

B was also kind of fun in a ridiculously OTT way, which I assume was an intentional parody on the part of the band. But it was also less interesting musically, so....

another good but completely different match up.
No need to listen to either of these songs as I have both.

B- from my favorite album from BSP. Their first along with the b-sides (I've got a bunch of their CD singles from this album) . I love lately great song but really there is nothing on this album I don't like. I agree they have some prog in them. Lots of energy live.

5/03- North Six, Williamsburg Brooklyn - They brought in their own weeds and branches.

A- I can see this is not in a lot of peoples wheel house but I love it. Another band I saw at NEARfest at 11am first day. Love their mix of Magma Zeuhl and japanese prog. Powerful performance

I would have taken the BSP song but not against the Japanese prog kings.

After this, I am considering putting Catherine Wheel on my next prog-cup list...BSP managed to stretch out a 4 minute song to enormous lengths. Rather liked it.
Il against the car-crash that is A it feels very polished. Just wasn't in the mood for it.

Easy vote here. I like B.

I dislike A. Actively.

Koenji Hyakkei grew on me. Enjoyed the percussion initially, then the rest of the instrumentation and even the vocals started to become surprisingly charming.
