Cat and Fiddle, 2pm, Baron and Min, bring yer Mekons records
Lord Almighty, you heard it righty!
Me and the husband are in LA for Labour Day weekend - getting there midweek actually and leaving on Sunday. It's primarily a visiting relatives thing, but it would be awfully churlish not to try and see some of our BCB bretheren. The day we can best do this is Saturday afternoon - about 2pm onwards. We're not considering this to be a huge depraved session, more of a leisurely afternoon's tipsy tipple, though God knows I've said that before and the rest is history. So, if anyone is down for it, we would love to see you and yours..

Excellent news! I'm up for a drink or five for sure.

I can't make it unless it's a huge depraved session, sorry.

I have a friend who is DJing later the night of the 31st in Silverlake. He'll be playing tons of funk and boogaloo and soul and R&B stuff. Maybe a little R&R too. He's going from 7 - 11 over at El Chavo Mexican Restaurant. Actually in the adjacent Chavito bar. Good food, great drinks and a pretty swell hang. The Fish, Mr & Mrs Quaco and I (and my better half) spent a good many hours in there a couple of years ago.
So a later in the evening destination for anyone interested.

What's the going venue for Los Angeles gatherings? Is it still the Cat & Fiddle or has a new consensus emerged?

There were only 4 of us, but I think we enjoyed the King's Head in Studio City, which is similar but lower key and not in Hollywood (hence an easier commute for Matt Wilson, which is important, damn it!)
I'm fine with whatever, but that's added a new option. What part of town are you staying in?

"Northeast Los Angeles," between N. Figueroa and Hermon and Eugene Debs Parks. Close to South Pasadena and Alhambra, I guess.
Anyway, whatever works for most folks for early afternoon, like around 2.

If we want to be a bit hipper, there are a few places on that side of town:
Craft beer at The Hermosilla in Highland Park: http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-hermosillo-los-angeles
Amazing pizza (John San Juan seemed to like it) at the renowned (there's a wait at dinner time) and cash-only Casa Bianca: http://casabiancapizza.com
More craft beer (and vinyl -- last time I was there, they were playing Tago Mago, but you know hipsters, they probably played Cyndi Lauper next) at El Prado: http://www.yelp.com/biz/el-prado-los-angeles
Obligatory record store stop at Origami Vinyl: http://origamiorigami.com
There's tons of others. We don't usually do these because the idea is to stay more central for people staying in the Hollywood area, and also because Cat and Fiddle has outdoor seating you can sit at for a long time. But if we want to pub crawl or hit a few places, especially on the East Side where you're staying, there's definitely options.

I'll be there, wherever there is, with The Girl.
Might I toss Pasadena into the realm of possibility?
The Stone Company Store is fantastic, and there's any number of other cool craft-beer-centric places a block or three away if a pub crawl is in order: Congregation Ale House, The Otis Lounge, Lucky Baldwins, Yard House, King's Row, Haven Gastropub--I could go on.
It's all also Metro accessible, if that matters to anyone.
That said, we're up for anything.

I'm excited by all the talk of potential venues but despite my pub crawl thread, I would say that for the sake of next week, my preference is to stay in one place! I'm getting old, you know.

So, have we discussed enough locations to finally (and nearly inevitably) settle on the Cat & Fiddle? A lovely patio table for 8 or so just a couple of blocks from Amoeba Records? What could be better?

Whatever works for y'all!
I looked into it the other day after Min was appalled that I was planning on driving to this occasion, and it looks like we can make it down there by train, so that's a plus. But wherever is cool, and I'll leave it to the natives to figure out what works best for them. Pasadena, Studio City, Hollywood, wherever.
