Austin JU - Saturday 29th June.

Events people say they're coming to until a day or so before the event.

:P

Your mileage may vary.

I don't mean to be too dismissive of places, just aiming for the straight story. My objection to the Vietnamese place is purely to the concept (upscale Vietnamese food for the hipster bourgeoisie), but I am almost certainly being unduly curmudgeonly as I've never heard a bad word said about it and I would probably love it, being vaguely part of the demographic. Similarly, everyone loves the burger place.

No Show Baron wrote:As for a car, Sam, you've been here before so you have an idea of the scale of the town. The tourist areas of town are walkable, particularly if you make use of the buses. The buses are good for going north/south, but if you want to go east/west, it's more problematic. They are pretty reliable, and someone with a magic phone can work it all out pretty easily, but they probably don't operate with the same frequency as one might be used to on the east coast. If you want to go into east Austin, take any day trips, or are intolerant of the heat, then a car is necessary.

The heat is one of the reasons I'm leaning toward having wheels. That, an early Monday departure. Expectation of a trip or two to Waterloo/the big damn original Whole Foods. A desire to go drop some cash at Pinballz.
In spite of the fact that they insisted on spelling it with a Z at the end. Ugh.

We were certain of the venue but last night tried out a new place downtown that we think might make a GREAT spot. More news when I'm not still in bed, half cut.

Elizabeth Street Cafe is really good. I sort of aspire to be hipster bourgeoisie, but I haven't any fashion sense. And the brussel sprouts at Snack Bar are ridiculous--if you're into that sort of thing and it's right net to the Austin Motel.

If it is any consolation, June announced its presence unequivocally yesterday. It was unmistakably HOT.
Summer is here.

I'm bringing my Best of Philly... or at least local acts that I dig that actually recorded something (or bought me a drink).

Hm. I wasn't going to do one, I wasn't sure those were such a done thing anymore.
I'll consider it, but make no promises.

One generally doesn't go to another town to go to the movies, but it IS summer movie season, which means there are classic movie double features downtown at the Paramount and State theaters.

http://www.austintheatre.org/site/PageS ... ilm_series

The Paramount is one of those big, old theaters with a huge balcony and everything else. This does mean that it's not as comfortable as many modern theaters are, but I don't let this bother me that much. Anyway, worth checking out.

I've decided to come down for this. There are a lot of movies that I'd love to see on the big screen playing that weekend!
