Re: PC 21- FINAL Match 4
A has some nice passages, but when you get right down to it, it clearly exists to show off their chops and for no other reason. I will never reward that no matter how impressive the chops are.
Fortunately B (can you say Broad Church?) is intriguing and powerful. And new! Great pick.

Re: PC 21- FINAL Match 4
I agree with toomanyhatz that A did indeed have some nice passages, successfully creating some good tension and release moments but was let down by a little too much showboating and an unnecessary drum solo, but on the whole a thumbs up.
I enjoyed B a lot, like a rockier version of Tinariwen,

Two contestants trying too hard here me thinks...
Apparently an Argentinian band that clearly spent their youth listening to Jean-Luc Ponty, Camel...
It's good stuff but far too derivative to deserve my vote.
On to B - oh yes, Mahamadou Souleymane, whose uses the stage name Mdou Moctar from west Africa (!)
Pleasant
And these two lads were doing so well...
I want to abstain but I'll go for

A. Never heard of them and despite some suggestions of lack of originality, I enjoyed it for the 8 minutes I gave it.
B. Not really my thing, and a long way from prog.

as a sidenote, at some point, c, you and i will hafta deal with certain... issyews. when we do this, it will be when you are introducing me to what real currry is whilst plying me with jack. just so you know.
*i* thought both tracks were fucquin fantastic. why? oh, maybe it's my inner, gweetar-luvvin, percussivity-swillin cavewench. could be.
i do love em both. but i gotta go A. it was just such a screaming jam from start to finish (bass solo! drums comin back in! yeah, the gweetarist mighta needed a break. DAMN.)
but make no mistake, B. also kickass/arse.

A- nice international prog of the 70's. yes it has its copy of others but they have a nice tone and style. Little too over the top at times but still good stuff
B- more psych than prog but nice.

The nadir of this competition. Boring, boring, boring.
I will vote, but with a heavy heart.
For being a bit more proggy its..

Re: PC 21- FINAL Match 4
I liked A in spite of the show-offy character (and the not-quite-up-to-the-task bassist) and I would usually support the obscure and exotic seventies prog nugget by principle.
But I can't help giving my vote to the one and only NEW track in this final, because it's bloody brilliant!

In the 2014 Cup I posted up Crucis and it was pitched against House On The Hill by Audience (chosen by dear departed Loki).
And won.
Not keen on B, not my thing.

Afrique Victime is one of my favourite albums so far this year. Prog it's not but it's exciting and rocks....
