Coincidentally, I posted up Jackdaw on the Facebook Prog Monthly forum - 'something for the youngsters' only yesterday

A wonderful track from a great album by the mighty Audience.

Full of music, twist and turns. Delightful.

Julie, Brian and the gang did nothing for me I'm afraid - a great voice with some great keyboard playing from Augur but I found it a bit pedestrian.

Quite easy:

A is fine. Not sure how prog it is, but it's 'Broad Church' enough for me. But B is a lot more interesting to me, from the Back Door-ish opening to the fluty bits to the rockin' gweetar. Prog length, but is an actual song with structure and everything, and enough twists and turns to not get dull. Will continue to investigate Audience further.

The Julie Driscoll track is stretching the definition of Prog somewhat but it is excellent (and not pedestrian in the slightest)

Jackdaw was on my list for the final if I'd made it and in hindsight should have picked it for the tiebreak :) . Terrific track from an underated band.

Great match but B sneaks it

A. I was hoping for something more exciting from Julie and chums.
B. I’ve heard a few times before. I’m not a fan of the singer, but I did like the flute bit.

You know you can have too much music, especially when it’s a flute-laden monstrosity rapidly disappearing up its own self-congratulatory importance. The lyrics are beyond risible.
A it is.

A- only know the hit cover. Nice song I like the vocals and Brian's keys. I can see the prog in this song wasn't expecting too.

B- Buffalo? never heard of these guys. really digging it. vocals, drums, guitar, flute. smorgasbord of music.

Can't really criticize A other than Julie going too OTT at the end. That would go over well on "America's Got Talent" and similar shows but not with me. Not sure how B wound up in the final. The only part I liked was the fuzzy guitar.

Jools never really grabbed me, with or without Brian Auger... and I do prefer the original with David Ackles' warm baritone.

Audience, on the other hand, I've always loved, with their frantic flutes, saxes and 12-string guitars!!

Jackdaw wouldn't have been my first choice, but still

Really enjoyed both tracks. Jackdaw I am familiar with but it’s a few years since I last played it so over-familiarity was not an issue. A was new to me.

Very tight but it’s a B for me.

Audience (like Traffic) appeared in a PSL recently- clever move! Played as tribute to Scally/Mike (ching) last month it certainly was a memorable and powerful memory for me. It's up against a sweet ditty but still....

Audience - great stuff & a nice obscure pick. Great instrumentation and very well recorded. I recall Led Zeppelin ripped off a from them.

So easy peasy B

Audience would be hard to beat - A doesn't .
