Re: PC 21- FINAL Match 2
I really like The Dead and have many of their live albums.
Lots of 'em. But I am never that impressed with the studio albums with a few [obvious] exceptions.
I am very sorry contestant, but this track is not strong enough for a final. I may be wrong but I think it might get slaughtered.
Rather insipid for my taste. Sorry
Michael Rother on the other hand is full of music.
Taken from the lad's second album Sterntaler it's an absolute corker
Stunningly beautiful and a great choice (to my ears)
With the late great Jaki Liebezeit from Can on tubs [he plays on Rother's first three albums actually]
Easy. Very easy

Re: PC 21- FINAL Match 2
At least partially agreeing with C here. I do like that particular Dead album considerably - probably their most 'proggy' record all told - but that particular track is a bit slight. And again, if it were some obscure folk/rock band from the UK recording in 1970, it might make me interested in what else they may have done. But of course I know the answer to that for the Dead, and the answer is there are far, far better tracks from that period.
B's charms are a bit subtle, and it's a bit longer than ideal for my taste, but I don't know it as well, plus it's more intriguing. And the drums are (of course) wonderful

Re: PC 21- FINAL Match 2
i thought A was very sweeeeet.
i have a complicated relationship with the dead. i love some isolated tracks. studio. i love their live cover of pocky way. but when i've tried to listen to em live for any length, they just... lose me. it all starts sounding the same. i aint gonna be twirling for that for long. i'm sure it's just me.
but this here studio album is the only dead album i enjoy front to back. maybe it's what hatz says... it's their most proggy, and most interesting. there is much that is wunnerful in there. and varied. like this track is.
that being said, the only time i heard a rother album was at a recent synch listen, and i LOVED it. i can't explain why. and wherever this track came from, it hits me the same exact way. michael rother has just grown alllll over me. that's what it is.

If I hadn't known A was Grateful Dead I would never have guessed, it sounds nothing like what I'd expect, and that is a good thing. An enjoyable little instrumental, however an excellent Michael Rother choice takes this match.

A- Sage and Spirit great Weir/ Garcia little folk jam. Only played twice live I was there the last time (Radio City Halloween 80). I like plenty of studio dead and Blues for Allah might be the best studio album.
B- love it
sorry dead I'll take

A is very pretty. I'd probably like the Dead more if they sounded like that more often. B is okay as far as musical wallpaper goes, I suppose.

I love Blues for Allah unreservedly as part of my drug-addled youth and this excerpt pushes all kinds of right buttons in my mind.
The Rother is nice, but that's about it
(it could be different, of course, had HE been the soundtrack at the time)
Anyway, A, totally.

Hmm, this match isn’t doing much for me, both “nice” but all a bit pedestrian.
I have to go with my namesake.

I'm scratching my head at the Grateful Dead selection. It's not offensive but give me a 45 minute Dark Star anyday.
The Michael Rother track is tasteful but i feel he's repeating his Neu! & Harmonia formula too much.
So what can i say?

Choices indeed!
I love the Dead more, but that is not a characteristic selection.
That IS a more characteristic M Rother track.
I'll go Dead - old habits, etc...
