I've never got on with Oxric T and I'm never sure why. It's like Bevis Frond and The Enid

They all have something in common. Good musicians who can't right a truly robust song.

Flash on the other hand are a different kettle of fish.

The lad Peter Banks - the original guitarist with Yes.

Overflowing with music and from their debut album this is a corker!

A is fine as long as you get past the horrible album cover, the very Yes-like sound (come by honestly, of course, but still...) and the Who-cop riff. I was able to, though I probably would have liked it more at about half the length. They're also pretty dorky-looking guys, but I'm trying not to hold that against them.

In any case, there's some semblance of a song there, which is more than I can say for B.

Finally some Prog. There’s been far too much non-Prog in this year’s Prog Cup. My two most Prog songs (Steven Wilson and David Minasian) were the only two that lost.... anyway, enough of my unreasonable moaning.

I've only ever heard the debut Flash album and enjoy it enormously. It's very Yes like and why not, it features two of the original band after all and there is a pinch of The Who in the mix too. The vocals are the weak link of course and I can easily imagine Jon Anderson improving this song immeasurably but even with the weak vocal this is still a top track.

I use to have a whole bunch of Ozric Tentacle albums, they "sounded" good with clear spacey guitar and whooshing keyboards but they all sounded much alike with barely any variation from album to album so I got rid of the lot. Jurassic Shift was the standout album of the bunch and very typical of their overall schtick and I actually enjoyed the title track in isolation. I would find it hard to hear a whole album's worth of this without my mind wandering but in a small dose this was perfectly fine.

umm.... i seem to be in a minority once again, mwhaha.

i mean, i dig the yes-clone track as much as anyone i guess.

but i LOVE the ozric track. i've never heard em before (not that i can remember anyway), and i thought it was a spacey, fantastic, atmo-ridden jam. oh yes i did.

Ozrics output is catastrophically endless, certainly Ed Wynne's stack of shrooms hasn't dissipated much over the years. I usually stick to Erpland and this one as my go-to albums and it's a pleasure to hear.

A is great, love the Banksian touches in the mellow bits in the middle. But pass the pipe....

Flash grabs your attention in a good way at first but this track really does go on too long and comes across a bit show-offish for my taste. The Ozrics do sound the same from track to track but I don't mind listening to 10 plus minutes of their spacey jamming. Sometimes it really hits the spot.

A- Nice music but can't get behind the singer. Nice work from Peter Banks.

B- Sweet Ozric song from their best album. Love Ed Wynne's Steve Hillage style of guitar. Great synths and love the middle eastern sounds.

I live near Glastonbury and have endured the Ozrics too numerous times to mention. An occasional track by itself is OK, an album or a gig? Pass the acid, bong and whatever else you have and I might make it through. Unlikely though.
I've not heard Flash before. I probably don't want to hear it again.
For the shock of the new.

Hmm, good match.

Not a great fan of space jams but B had plenty of music - not played any OT for years but I might stick some on next week.

Not sure I’ve ever heard anything by Flash before but I enjoyed that.

A is ok, but I enjoy B more here.

Enjoyed both hugely.

Eventually Flash's song was starting to wear out its welcome, whereas the Ozrics lifted me up and carried me away.
