Pat Methany is a great guitarist but sadly I find much of his work boring.

Okay he is partnering the great Steve Reich but...

I have just had a spell of Manuel Göttsching and he does it much better.

Have a listen to Inventions for Electric Guitar

Okay on to Luciano Basso a similar 'repetitive style'

I don't really connect with either - so I am close to an 'abstention'

For me, the worst match of the competition. Sorry

But reluctantly

Nice dose of minimalism. For me it comes down to A doing a much better job of keeping me engaged for 4 and a half minutes than B did of keeping me engaged for almost 8 minutes.

I was a big fan of Metheny until the mid 80s, but didn’t find anything in A of interest and ultimately I found it irritating.
B started off more promisingly but was also disappointing. But slightly less annoying than A.

A is a bit of a departure for Metheny but his fluid clear tone guitar is distinctive, the underlying melody is strong enough to sustain the Reich's repetitive style and the gentle strum of the acoustic adds colour. At 4 and half mins it never outstays its welcome either, a lovely piece.

B also makes a lovely sound with the warmth of the strings and stately piano combining to make a delightful chamber piece with enough melody and change of mood to keep it engaging and the introduction of guitar and drums gave it the Prog edge it initially lacked.

Very nice opening match but the magic of Metheny just nicks it.

Love the multipatterned trips from Steve Reich! The flow of the individual strains is incredible and nicely muted by the acoustic guitar.... mathematical and hypnotic.
B was boring in comparison.

Both very enjoyable. A sounds like a more jazzy 80's King Crimson, B reminds me of a more mellow 70's King Crimson at times.

I guess I'll go with

A- Nice Methany work but even with Reich it doesn't do much for me these days.

B- was entertaining enough to get me vote

A doesn't actually DO anything. Meandering along in its own repetitive, torpid, refrain until it thankfully comes to its inevitable unmemorable conclusion.
B is some sort of madrigal-infused Bontempi apocalypse, enamoured by its own, very much imagined, portent.
Christ.
I'm going for the brevity.

For me A was utterly without merit. I dislike on a theme repetitive bollocks intensely.

B was pleasant.

B is ok without being really singular. A is pretty great.

Classical battle - serialist versus neo classical.

Both very good, prefer the more romantic Luciano Basso.
