A Good old Peter. I’m not familiar with this song. Not bad.
B I remember this coming out. I thought it might be for me as a twin lead guitar aficionado. It wasn’t.

I love Peter Hammill's voice and, of course, VdGG are the ninth greatest band that ever walked the planet.

This is a lovely track but I can see that Peter is a bit of a marmite act.

This is (perhaps) a clever choice because this selection hasn't got any of his 'shouty' stuff which turns some folk off.

I can see Frank thinking this is only 'quasi-bobbins' and voting for it 'cos it is short.

Automatic Fine Tuning - from the mid-70s - I had forgotten them. My kid brother's mate Bulmer had this album and I liked it but never bought it. Perhaps it didn't quite grab me.

Perhaps that is what I am thinking now. I could hear Wishbone Ash from the opening bars so it's a bit derivative but whether it's claptrap is debatable.

It's a brisk, sprightly jaunt a track that would have the prog goons on a Friday evening/[afternoon in USA]:

foot tappin'
body swayin'
head noddin'

Whether it's got enough to vote for it...

I think not

Hammill and a piano not bad but i much prefer him with VDGG. B has nice twin lead guitar with and a real toe tapper.

I must admit from the outset that I tend to give quirky, personal prog more 'benefit of the doubt' than stuff mostly created to show off musicianship. But B is also more playful than most of its ilk, and the Hammill somewhat slight, so I'm torn.

I think B is engaging me more at the moment, but I reserve the right to change my mind.

Strange choice of song by Hammill, I would have preferred on of his more grandiose works.

I liked the playing on the second track, but ultimately it didn't really deliver or go anywhere.

The Hammill track nice enough without being particularly remarkable but even non-shouty Hammill is not my favourite of voices.

B was like a second division Wishbone Ash who are themselves second division which makes this lot third division.

Its getting increasingly difficult to make a choice when presented with the likes of these 2.
I'm going with C's accurate description of B as Claptrap, but I'd add in the word wearisome.
A is indeed short but astonishingly no better for it. It has some poignancy, and the lyrics are a nice tribute. But it needs mellotrons, capes and a weird blown instrument. And somebody who can sing.
No quasi bobbins in this competition.
Its a full on Bobbinsageddon.
A. Kill me now.

I didn't hate the Peter Hammill this time, but the other entry is much, much better.

Found this a tough choice, and the more I played each the more I enjoyed each one.

B because the Hammill fell into more singer songwriter territory than the Gladioli pickers.

I love the Cup - this match descending into whether proceedings are in fact 'quasi-bobbins' or 'full on Bobbinsageddon'.

'he never was made for...middle-age'. A tribute to Keith Ellis of Juicy Lucy, Boxer, and Van Der Graaf Generator.

Gets my vote, Peter.

Fantastic guitar interplay by AFT, from a real one-off forgotten treasure of an album.

I do like VDGG, but Hammill's solo stuff often suffers from directionless meandering. This is mercifully short, but no exception.

A- nice solo song by Peter- as someone who likes his distinct vocals and piano work. I’m a fool for solo piano work see Tori Amos

B- nice duo guitar but really didn’t go anywhere or interest me much.
