Re: PC21- Round 6 Match 8
Rock musicians are pretty much asking for it whenever they add the designation 'movement' to their little jams. A is pleasant enough but doesn't really go much of anywhere, at least till the mellotron in the last few seconds.
B, on the other hand, though a bit overdone (particularly vocally), is a much better interpolation of Irish traditional music than we've had previously, and played by top players, to boot. And it feels appropriate, not like it was held together with chewing gum. Horslips, take note.

A, as it is more in keeping with what I understand to be prog rock.
As much as I like Kate Bush, I'm strangely indifferent to that track. It probably works better when hearing the whole album.

Re: PC21- Round 6 Match 8
Jig Of Life was set around a bunch of traditional Irish melodies ratcheted together by Kate Bush's brother Paddy and is the centrepiece of the Ninth Wave-cycle. Prog it ain't but Kate's approach on that total piece is progressive (especially in the wonderful Hello Earth).
Minasian is one of those guys that keeps on getting namechecked by a lot of current progtelligentsia but I can't really see why on the basis of this piece.

Blimey! There are 2 preceding 'movements' to A? Thank Christ these were not included.
B is Kate Bush. Not a fan. This is full of raggle-taggle nonsense. A travesty.

I'll start with Kate - an interesting voice but like Frank I am no fan.
The fiddle is nice and it has a appealing folky feel. Yes, I'm with it so far
I can never imagine sitting down and listening to a whole Kate Bush album not even one side (although I did manage a PSL a few months back)
Yes, a bit of bodhran
I like a bit of bodhran me!
Good stuff - Kate's not singing! I never like 'talking' [unless it's Peter doing the likes of Pressed Rat]
The talking is spoiling for me.
Oh dear.....
David Minasian [I assume Steve Hackett likes it]
Classical pianist to motion picture producer - music videos and films - an interesting career
However, this track is derivative as hell
Pleasant enough but not very original
So, how to vote?
Talking versus being derivative.....?
I'll go for the latter

Re: PC21- Round 6 Match 8
A was very enjoyable, all the way through.
ya know, i spent most of my adult life not likin kate bush. i saw a few early vids and decided i did not like her performance or vocalisms at all.
i kept that same bias for many years... until we had a listen on this board for this album.
the point: i absolutely loved it. LOVED it. just goes to show. sometimes, ya need to give stuff anuther try, whatever yer earlier notions.
kate takes it.

Re: PC21- Round 6 Match 8
A is very much on the tasteful end of the Prog spectrum but is saved by a typically fine Hackett solo.
The whole Ninth Wave suite certainly has Prog pretensions and is full of wonderful and unexpected twists and turns. Jig of a Life is cracker, rousing and infectious with a few twists within the same piece to keep you on your toes.

It's KATE BUSH talking, C!!!
When I was seventeen I joined her fan club. Interesting thing, once joined, you can never leave. Ever. Like the Foreign Legion.

A features some trademark lead guitar from Hackett, picks up towards the end. I like the folky vibe of B but i can only take Kate Bush is small doses.

A - okay song with a nice Hackett solo.
B- Been a big fan since the 70's of Kate let alone her influence on me and many of my favorite women how rock. Kick myself for not going to UK to see her, friend even had a ticket for me. Love Jig of life and the mix of Irish melodies and Kate's amazing vocals (screw you haters).
easy win for Kate

A is the epitome of derivative claptrap (Hackett notwithstanding)
B is Kate and a great part of a great album
