Re: PC21- Round 6 Match 1
For reasons I'm not sure I can really explain, Horslips have never really been part of my automatic love for 70s electric folk - maybe it's because I love Irish traditional music from the era so much, or maybe it's because they just don't do anything that interesting with the choons. This one tries to turn a great, forceful reel into a pop hook, and it just doesn't want to play along. Driving it into the ground enough to lose the propulsiveness doesn't help. Great idea on paper, not so much in execution.
Feels weird to be voting for A, but it's just Zappa being Zappa, except it does its thing and moves on, unlike most of his stuff.

I've tried a few times with Horslips but they never really clicked with me. The Zappa pick I can't fathom, hundreds of better Zappa picks available.

One Size Fits All is a terrific Zappa album but that's a fairly inconsequential link piece between much better songs.
The Horslips track was upbeat and tuneful enough to take this match.

Zappa's choice is a very interesting choice. I can't see many non-Frank fans voting for it but I might be completely wrong.
I always see Eveline as an intro to the next track, San Ber'dino - I am not sure this track works in isolation....
Horslips - a great track from a great album
IT ROCKS
Sorry Frank

Evelyn, a Modified Dog is what my mother would term 'an interesting pick'. Other Zappa songs hold a lot more interest to me, Inca Road from the same album for one.
A cracking tune from Jeemo's ( and mine favourite Horslip's album is a clear winner.

If I were to honestly present my feelings this would be a clear abstention. However its a cup and you have to vote for something I suppose. A is risible and B is the sort of thing that makes me nauseous. I don't like, one bit, all this Celtic gubbins.
For its brevity alone.
A.
