Re: PC21- Round 2 Match 7
Proper wyrd folk finally makes an appearance! No way I'm not voting for B despite the appalling band name. Did nobody at the (major!) label try to talk them out of it? It really gives the wrong impression.
A had some lovely moments, but it meandered a lot by comparison.

Vermilion [only one 'L'] Sands started very nicely and very prog-like.
A Japanese band I think - my brother bought this album - late 80s (?)
Tasty tubs - not complex but doing the job.
A nice change of tempo and on we go!
I'm not sure about the vocals - adequate I suppose
Lots of music going on - I enjoyed it
Fresh Maggots never did much for me. They were good and I appreciated what they did but they just lacked something for me.
Perhaps it's the vocals. This is a good track but I preferred the other lot more
I'm going for:

Re: PC21- Round 2 Match 7
Tough match. A proper old school-style prog tune here, and enjoyable stuff. The kind of thing i might put on and just let it wash over me. Would have won many a tie, but sadly it's also up against another fine tune that is most enjoyable. and pushes my pleasure zones in a more immediate way. Lovely picking and arrangements, which build up the feelings of calmness and peace, bit with a slightly haunted edge. With apologies to a...

I found it hard to get any enjoyment from either of these. Its was a challenge to make it to the end, and a blessed relief when I did. I really don't like the horrible folk musings of B. Just an anathema to these ears. B is pretty much the same but is saved by the drumming.

Re: PC21- Round 2 Match 7
well, i love em both, forfucquinsooth. (more thanks for the turn-ons. i just don't have the breadth and depth y'all have. as far as i'm concerned, better late than never, mwhaha. yeehaw.)
i was a lil meh about A til the mellotron hit early in, and it just got... lovely to me.
B was lovely from the get go (although hatz is surely shirley right about the band name... at least the album "maggot brain" was metaphorical, for fucque's sake.)
both lovely and full of earness. but i think i'll take the more fullsome journey.

A is like prog-folk 101, all elements and instrumentation in place. It's not terribly exciting though whether it's vermillion or vermilion with one l.....
B is at least short and to the point.

Re: PC21- Round 2 Match 7
I waited 12 minutes for A to finally lift off but it never did.
Rosemary Hill already appeared in previous cups and it's a standout track on several freak folk compilations I own.
I love it.
Glockenspiels rule!!

Re: PC21- Round 2 Match 7
A sounded very much like a Japanese version of Renaissance, which is no bad thing at all and I enjoyed it a lot though it did kind of fizzle out towards the end.
Rosemary Hill is a familiar tune so I assume it's been used before in either this or a folk competition. It's a lovely tune that would have fitted nicely on the Wickerman soundtrack.
Difficult choice but I'll go A as it's something completely new that had appeal.

A was competent and listenable but i find all these post 80's prog bands much of a muchness.
The Fresh Maggots did not float my boat either, i disliked the orchestration.

A is pretty good prog for Japanese people. B is pretty good folk-psych for teenagers.

Re: PC21- Round 2 Match 7
Well I rather enjoyed both tracks.
A a bit overlong but still, for a 1st play it went down ok.
B was very pleasant, if a bit short.
Hard to pick one but I seem more tempted to see what else A have to offer so I guess that’s a fair indication of where my vote belongs.
