Damn it, why must these go against each other? Truly love both.
B if I absolutely must choose. This is close to the end of peak Procol, but still mighty. And Brooker is the most soulful of prog vocalists, certainly.

I never dreamed I'd see XTC in a Prog Cup, I'd never thought of including them myself and I love them. Fabulous track though and it'll take something special to sway me from voting for it.
Procol Harum have never really clicked with me though I like them well enough but they have just never wowed me. Having said that I really enjoyed this track which had a lot more punch than I associate with them. Good pick.

No Trower is a disappointment but I can't stand Partridge's earnest wailing.

Two somewhat underwhelming tracks from bands I love - but perhaps both are growers.
If like me you are in any way undecided, listen to a remastered version of the PH track - that swung it for me.

Re: PC21- Round 1 Match 3
I admit - I know nothing about XTC. Nothing
An interesting start but I got a bit restless before the vocals came in two minutes later.
It sounds to me as if they want to sound like Yes.
No sorry - not my cup of darjeeling.
Procol Harum was very nice. From Grand Hotel I think - all the PH trademarks piano/organ/voice.
Splendid

A is of course a masterpiece, B is good Procol Harum number, but doesn't match A's originality, musicality, flair, genius

Rather underwhelmed by both, neither quite my cup of wizard's broth. If I were to play either again it would be the PH I'd go to first.

Hard for me to vote against local heroes, but that is a very average track by the Procols.

Both of these ae just ok for me, tbh. A seems to have a bit more uniqueness.

it's not that i can't hear, appreciate and get more into A as it goes along, but it just doesn't get with me somehow. i remain more on the outside lookin in. ah well.
