A is great. However...(you know what comes next, right?)

B deserves a win just for the line "melodious beans and gravy." It won't get it, of course.

Phil Ochs has never been my thing.

My loss I know but I just don't connect.

Robin Williamson I love and his mate Mike Heron.

I thought of selecting and Incredible String Band track 'cos I adore them but didn't think it would go down too well

This is the next best thing to my ears.

"I never thought I looked good in khaki
It hurt the pride as well as it scratched the balls"

Great stuff - superb lyrics and full of music sung with passion and love

A robust selection

Easy, B has it

B has it

Nice Phil Ochs tune, although its maybe a little obvious as a choice.
Robin Williamson is a delight. If you ever get the chance to see him story then do so. he can be one of the most entertaining men on the planet if the mood takes him. This song is lyrical genius, quirky, irreverent, top, top stuff.

In other rounds Phil Ochs would de well, but here he is overwhelmed.

Another good pairing.

William's was fun, engaging, joyful.

Och's I've been a fan of for over forty years, maybe an obvious choice but the song still has beauty for me.

Not sure why this is an obvious Phil Ochs song, it was only released on one poorly received pseudo-live album. Not like I went for Crucifixion (which Phil regarded as his best track) or "I Ain't Marching Anymore". And it's the first bloody Ochs song of the cup, despite him being the best of the bunch. Gah, you're hard to please. This is one of the greatest songs ever recorded, obviously, a beautiful and melancholy ode to the passing of time. As Neil Young says, "One of the greatest songwriters who ever lived". I guess if you're a Neil fan you've probably seen this clip, but I think this is apt, because sometimes I think Phil Ochs was as vital for his stage chat as his music, and Neil is genuinely great in the intro to this. Who the hell would shout "C'mon lets go!" at Neil Young when talking about a friend's suicide?

I've obviously laid my cards on the table already, but I did consider choosing "A Very Cellular Song" for this cup, just because it is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. If that'd been picked, I don't think I could've picked a winner. I'm kinda disappointed to hear this, I've never heard any solo Robin, but he seems to be forcing the cliched folk vocal style much more than he did at ISB's peak. And then all plasticky jiggy stuff? Really, this is such a shame knowing that he once recorded something so great, so individual and beautiful, and then somehow was reduced to this. All ideas of cup competition aside, this has genuinely put me on a bit of a downer. Poor show.

A: Nice track, typical of Ochs. Tasteful playing, unadorned middling tenor singing.
B: A hoot and a fun listen, I may investigate more but I cain't vote this over Ochs.

I must be off. Normally B would sway me easily but such is the nature of things that A capture me a bit more today.

I don’t get on with Phil Ochs at all. This is a good song that would be much better served by a big arrangement with an overblown string interlude that works the hooky bit for all it’s worth.

B’s folk-dandy thing doesn’t always do it for me but he pulls this one off with style and aplomb.

I like B a lot, it's a highlight from Robin's one post-ISB albums I really rate.

But hearing Phil's Changes again simply threw me.
I first heard it sung by an US echange student who stayed with us for half a year around 1971.
What a song.

And I'd never seen Neil Young doing it, thanks DF, that had me in tears.

Are you trying to troll me? :o

I'm hoping that there is an international restraining order, banning you from within half a mile of any recording studio.

I'm the second-biggest fan of Ochs on this board, and I never really got on with the ISB or is offshoots, so A
