Congrats to the Fish and, er, me- both of the group runners-up are in the final! Well played to C and fange, it was a mighty challenge all the way through.

The final will be played in a best-of five playoff.

If fange and C fancy a playoff of their own for the bronze, let me know- happy to oblige!

Well played Paul and Maarts. That was great fun!

However, I am still reeling from Christy getting slaughtered.

You bunch of cloth-eared bastards!

Yes, well played everyone!

My bitterness at losing is intense, but i will get over it eventually, and i can assuage my pain by remembering that some of you have the worst taste in music i have ever seen. Ever! You know who you are.

So, no Bronze medal play-offs, C?

Happy to do that my friend but surely you would be happier with joint 3rd as opposed to 4th....?

Congrats to the pair of you, you both put up some excellent songs and at least one of you was robbed.

When can we start again? Bloody good cup this one, well played everyone, and as ever my metphorical cap is doffed in Maarts' direction.

You're still all a bunch of cloth-eared cretins, mind you. The fact I didn't make it out of the group stage is something you should all be deeply ashamed by.

Don't know what to say really....first time I ever won a Cup! Thank you all!

Thanks Paul for the grand finale you put up- really dug the Mark Fry (which I think has come up earlier in a Cup and remembered the need to check out- will do so!) and Sammy Walker was a nice find too.

Thanks to you all for entering, voting, commenting and supporting. It's a load of fun to do if I see people returning here to participate. Hopefully in the new Year we can get a new Cup on the rails, if you so desire.

Special thanks to the Modernist for dropping out at the last moment and allowing me to enter. This could have been you, brother.....

this whole contest has been great with plenty of good music to enjoy. Thanks Maarts for all your efforts once again and I look forward to the next one.

And what have we learned....

Folk is a very broad church (but we know that already)
There is quite a lot of Scandinavian folk music to explore
BCB doesn’t like anything traditional and modern (where were a the Unthanks, Stick in the Wheel, Lankum etc.?)
Steeleye Span are folks Only Ones
Some people can’t recognise an authentic Middlesbrough accent at 10 paces
Not much love for protest songs
Too much love for male singer/Songwriters
You all have cloth ears.

A seminal Cup and robust fun - thanks for the sterling organisation Maarts.

Well played Maarts. Happy to have least edged it to a split decision, which looked unlikely at one stage.
