The BCB Prog Corner Cup 2012
In the sad absence of The Rokster the next Prog Corner Cup will be organised by NMB.
Thanks Gerard - The Prog Illuminati are unanimous in upholding your application.
This year as mooted it will be wider - prog, progressive and broad[er] church to reflect what is posted on PC.
This thread has been started to get the ball rolling re: date, format etc.
However, NMB will be holding the reins and all final decisions will be made by Gerard.
Democracy will be of the Prog Illuminati style
Let's Discuss!

''mooted''
Though some might prefer ''muted'', I grant you.

Re: The BCB Prog Corner Cup 2012
Looking forward to it. But may I suggest that it is not held so close to the BCB Cup. Maybe it's too late for this year, but maybe a January date would be in order?

I think that's a valid point Paul - but we started January last year which if I recall correctly was in the thick of the ancillary Cup....
I am sure we could start in December if that helps...
I am not sure of the timing of the other cup
Views all?

I can do December if everyone else can. 5 weeks to prepare is plenty.

Re: The BCB Prog Corner Cup 2012
Evening all, a few thoughts from me.
1. When should we run the cup?
In a week I go on holiday for 2.5 weeks (South Africa since you ask) so I won't be able to do anything until late November anyway. December as has already been suggested would be good for me.
2. Where should we run the cup?
It's been suggested that we move it from What Goes On to the BCB Cups area. That makes sense to me.
3. What is the content?
Last time we had the Prog Cup, which led to arguments about what is or isn't prog. So this time it's going to be the Prog Corner Cup instead. That means that absolutely any music is valid for inclusion, the only restriction being that you're trying to win the votes of Prog Corner regulars, so music of a more progressive slant might fare a little better.
4. Who can enter?
I appreciate the danger of trollism from certain elements but I'd rather not be exclusive (elitist as some would claim) if we can avoid it. I'd prefer to make the cup open to all comers with a polite request for people not to spoil the enjoyment of others. But the competition belongs to Prog Corner not to me so I'll go with the majority decision on this.
5. How many can enter?
A number like 16 or 32 (could we get that many?) is more convenient but again I'd rather not exclude anyone who wants to take part. So I'd say we don't set a limit on the number of contestants and have a qualifying round if necessary to get to a round number. I thought maybe the qualifiers could be based on lists of albums instead of lists of songs so that people's song lists aren't prejudiced for the competition proper.
6. Who can vote?
I'm in favour of restricting this to the participants like we did last year. The reason being that we are trying to devise lists to impress our fellow prog lovers not the entire board. So I wouldn't want anybody to go out because their list appeals to the prognoscenti but not to the world in general.
7. What have I forgotten to mention?
Loads I expect. Feel free to chip in.
Thanks
NMB

I was thinking of starting next year's main competition in January, probably towards the end of the month. If that's any help.

I definitely think we should restrict voting only to those that compete otherwise the thread crappers [they know who they are - as do we] will do their best to ruin things

December sounds good to me.

Not really fussed, but I don't see why it shouldn't go in the box labeled 'Cups'.

I think this could make for more imaginative selections. Good idea.

Fair enough. Anyway, we should be able to spot a rogue a mile off.

Call for entries, and then decide. I'm not against byes or qualification.

I'm actually OK with anyone voting who wants too, but I'll go with the flow.
