There was a singer back in the '60s/'70s named January Jones.

I knew Jamaica Inn & Rebecca were Du Maurier books adapted for film by Hitchcock - but I honestly wasn't aware The Birds was written by Du Maurier as well.

Cacao was first used as a source of wine (fermented beverage) using the inside of the large pods but not the “seeds” that would later be processed into what became chocolate.

Scientists have found further evidence that dolphins call each other by "name". Research has revealed that the marine mammals use a unique whistle to identify each other. A team from the University of St Andrews in Scotland found that when the animals hear their own call played back to them, they respond.

Edward Lear was at one time a fabulous nature artist and illustrated a huge work on parrots, living in a zoo while he studied them.

Pepsi-Cola is terribly addictive. It is 7:09 AM and I am without Pepsi. No jitters, but I can feel a headache coming on.

Interesting Strawberry Studios Stockport factoid...

Neil Sedaka recorded his version (he wrote the song) of Love Will Keep Us Together in Strawberry Studios in Stockport, Greater Manchester. The studio was funded and built by members of 10cc (actually before they formed the band propper). He had been invited over by the 10cc boys' managers to work on material with what would become 10cc. The resulting LP, Solitaire was suitably melancholic - the title track which was made famous by Andy WIlliams could be a Smiths tune in a parallel universe.

Later that same decade, Martin Hannett and Joy Division would record Love Will Tear Us Apart - with its lyrical inspiration coming from the Captain & Tennille version - in the very same space.

Malcolm McLaren went on to do a mash up between the two.

I learned all this from Paul Hanley's excellent book Leave The Capitol.

I seem to recall reading that there is evidence that dolphins 'inherit' part of their 'name' from their mothers too.

I originally read that as 'later that same day'. My brain nearly exploded.

By the way, Love Will Tear Us Apart was recorded )and re-recorded) in 1980. There are people who defy popular acceptance of the decade starting with the year with a zero on the end, and insist it begins with the year with a one at the end. Is that your position?

Well, clearly! :)

Perhaps I should have said 'within a decade', whatever, that's not really an important part of the story.

I learned today that I don't have lung cancer as my wife was convinced was the case but just a collapsed long (Pneumothorax) was apparently can happen spontaneously, and that I never knew either. And I learned that Houston hospitals are amazingly efficicient: got there at 11:40, got the the CT Scan by 11:50 , at 12:05 I got back in the car and at 14:30 I had the results back.
