Not learnt today but hammered in today. I've been reading and intensely studying about the Shoah for the past six months .. too many sick people in this world and far too many allow "things" to happen. :(

I've learned that someone - I don't know who - actually still cares about this place.

That a red brick [redbrick] university is not the same as a Russell Group university

If you are still reading:

Redbrick is a subgroup of Russell

What is classed as 'ancient' universities, earlier than 1800, are not classed as redbrick ie Oxford and Cambridge.

The redbrick period is 1800 to 1960.

There are only nine redbrick universities: Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Bristol, Reading, Nottingham and Newcastle

Redbrick universities were originally concentrated on real-world skills often linked to engineering and medicine

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_brick_university

I am looking at universities with Zap so for me this was really interesting

oooof!

Italians characteristically being effortlessly stylish is a Myth.

Here's Matteo Berrettini (who will be playing against Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon men's finals tomorrow) and he has consistently throughout the tournament and the previous week at Queen's, worn a back-to-front baseball cap and black socks.
It's very disappointing.

The term "Gaslighting" comes from the 1944 George Cukor film "Gaslight" whose central plot is that of a husband trying to drive his wife insane in order to distract her from his criminal activities.

Not today, but I learned not long ago that the term "firewall" as applied to computers came from the 1983 movie WarGames.
