The original spelling of the word is 'organisation' which appeared in England. After the U.S. became an independent country, a number of words were ordered to change their spelling in order to make American English different from British English for the sake of nationalism and not of linguistics.

Interesting. Who ordered this, and who was ordered? And who got to choose which words were changed?

That's pretty interesting, and thanks for that - but I don't see anything on that Wiki page that says anything like the above quote...

I was talking to a doctor yesterday who said that they worked somewhere once where there were patients so fat that they could not fit into MRI scanners. If they needed an MRI, they had to send them down the road to the zoo.

If your doctor's lectures on your weight are not an incentive to lose it, I am pretty sure that avoiding the gaze of a rhino in the radiology waiting room is.

I learnt that the Virginia high school my older brothers and I graduated from is changing its name - from Robert E. Lee High School to John R. Lewis High School. The school board voted unanimously. My brothers and I are pleasantly surprised.

From a throwaway line in this Len Deighton book I'm audio-ing I learned the reason the English write and pronounce the English place names so differently was to fool invaders.

I had not seen my neighbor, Ian, for months but that wasn't unusual as our paths either crossed frequently or infrequently. I had asked by 93 year old neighbor, who was also friendly with Ian, if she'd seen him and she told me that he had to go in for a throat operation. This was a couple of months ago and I've wondered how Ian was doing but didn't know how to contact him. This morning i was told by my neighbor that Ian had died early in July. I was able to find his obit and leave a note for his family.

Ian was only 58years old and a very kind person. As I was reflecting upon Ian, I was told that Peter Green had died.

So two very sad deaths I've learnt of today. I hope that it doesn't run to three.

God, how many of those must there be in Virginia!? Good news, all the same.

That my neighbor two doors down wears bright pink polish on his toe nails. He's married with a three year old son and looks like tweedle dee or tweedle dum with skin tight pants, has skinny legs and a large round belly. It was odd to say the least ...

Remants of hurricane can still destroy plenty. Living in the hills north of NYC means any little storm tumbles trees and knocks out power.

Only if you are left handed and your right eye is green and your left eye is blue. Otherwise there is a stiff fine but a light jail sentence. :)
