The International Cricket Thread (excl England)

Postby Lord Rother » 05 Nov 2016, 11:02

Lovely collapse by Australia in the Perth Test v SA.

Having bowled SA out for 242, at 158-0 Aus were doubtless starting to count their furry little flightless edibles and suffered the consequences eventually registering only a 2 run lead.

Collapses are definitely the in thing these days.

SA now 390-6 in their 2nd innings and, despite Steyn being out for the series with a shoulder injury (he's finished I reckon) with a big crack opening up on the pitch there seems zero chance of Aus rescuing this one with 2 days to go.

Shame eh?

Always good to see the ever obnoxious Aussies on the wrong end of a game.

WTAF has happened to Australia in the last few months?

2nd Test started today and they were dismissed for 85 with Smith 48 not out!

Looking forward to watching the highlights this evening (7.45, BT Sport 1). Thoroughly enjoyed the excerpts of the ABC commentary they played on TMS at the tea interval in Rajkot!

Bloody hell!

Another epic collapse in the 2nd innings. Last 8 wickets for 32 runs.

Oh dear. How sad. Never mind.

Still, when you've got Graham Hick as batting coach, what do you expect? They'd be much better off if Boof did that himself.

New Zealand's summer of cricket started with a promising win in the first test against Pakistan. It was notable mainly for the performance of the two debutants, batsman Jeet Raval, who performed creditable on a seaming wicket, scoring 54 and 36not out and bowler Colin De Grandhome, who took 6-41 in the first innings. NZ's frontline seam attack of Boulton, Southern and Wagner also bowled well in partnerships in conditions that favored them.

It will be interesting to see how Pakistan will go in the next match, as they arrived here under prepared, largely due to the elements (rain and then an earthquake ). Their bowlers played well, but their batsmen simply didn't provide them with enough runs to defend.

Whinging Australians! Love it.

Faf declares at 259-9 to give Aus an awkward hour and Smith (and many others) considers it unsportsmanlike because Faf knew that Warner couldn't open because he'd been off field for a while and couldn't come back on the field for a few more minutes.

They must be really rattled for that to get under their skin. Good opportunistic captaincy that unfortunately didn't come off as Aus finished 14-0 off 12 overs.

To be fair it would'nt have been the first unsportsmanlike thing he's done this tour. Imagine being stupid enough to ball tamper in an unassailable position.

And now they complain about bad mannered players too! Somebody should play them a highlight reel of Dale Steijn-blow ups.

New Zealand have won the second test in the most unlikely of circumstances. They batted to the conditions- low, seaming- and Ross Taylor's century, ensured that they set a gettable but competitive target for Pakistan. Pakistan started strongly in the fourth innings but collapsed in the final session, losing all of their wickets for a shade under 90 runs. For New Zealand, Southee was excellent in the first innings, bowling with discipline and getting it to move back. He deserved his six wickets. Meanwhile, a late rally of shortpitch bowling from Wagner wiped up the tail, making the result seem more convincing than it actually was. That said, Pakistan haven't lost a test series since mid-2014, so to beat them even in admittedly favourable conditions bodes well for a New Zealand side that's still trying to adjust itself to the post-McCullum era. As captain, Williamson is less prone to impulse decisions and extreme attacking fields than McCullum, but he seems to get the basics right.

They are only winning dead rubbers and ODI's. Nothing of any importance.

It's bizarre, although not entirely unexpected given Pakistan's reputation for incompetence between the wickets. I think it was pretty unsportsmanlike of Australia given that they could see the batsmen thought the ball was dead.

I don't think Pakistan will be too bothered, though, given that they are about to complete a thumping victory in the match!
