Gong Gazeuse! 1976
A bit better than Shamal, and Holdsworth acquits himself nicely, but still the sterility remains. No vocals, complete fusion without the humor Daevid provided, and Moerlen's vibraphone is everywhere.

For a while there years ago I thought this lot might just have ended up bigger than U2 - got that wrong. Nevertheless, this is a very good album and they certainly brought a unique guitar sound to the party. This is the colour of my cover.

I used to have it on vinyl but got bored with it and sold it years ago. Then I bought a box of their first 5 for about £10 a few weeks back. The CDs sound pretty terrible!

Strange that, I bought a best of CD by them and like you said the sound was terrible, high, shrill and with very little bass, just didn't sound like Big Country. I'll stick with the vinyl.

Got that first Skids one you posted, haven’t played for a long time whereas I have played Big Country a fair amount over the years. Nevertheless Into The Valley is one of my very favourite punk era tracks, brilliant.

With his back catalogue, easy to do. I keep telling myself "No more Neil" (I have more albums by him than any other artist), but I'm mulling over buying "Barn", as the reviews have been, generally, excellent.

Never quite sure what to make of Al Stewart and this album, think the best I can come up with is that it's inoffensive.

Bland, boring and soul destroying are other options

Agreed
vocals once described, at the time, as 'prissy'.
I like that
One or two of his earlier albums have always been more robust to my cloth-ears

NP
Better.....
Generally regarded as a 'transitional album' between the confessional folk sounds of his first three albums and the historically themed albums of his more successful mid-1970s period, the album includes Rick Wakeman on piano as well as future Elvis Costello and the Attractions bassist Bruce Thomas. The album also included one of the very few cover versions recorded by Stewart, Bob Dylan's "I Don't Believe You".

Okay, I was trying to say something positive but you’re pretty much right. Think this is the only album I’ve got by him, won’t be buying anymore.

Re: REAP CORNER
Not a favourite NY album but likeable. Like the maverick attitude ‘I can do what I want’, shame artists these days haven’t got the same type of attitude.

Crikey, just checked I’ve actually got no less than 7 Al Stewart LPs!
Amazing what you end up when things are dirt cheap - all bought during the great vinyl throwaway.
S’pose I’d better give some of them a listen.
