One good thing about Matt doing his extended reviews is that it makes you consider playing albums that you haven't played for a while.

I really enjoyed playing the first Nice album Thoughts Of Emerlist Davjack on the PSL session on Friday. As I said in the thread, I thought I might pick up a remastered/expanded copy on CD.

Oops.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000026VL4/ ... _dp_dpt_12

Prices are very high indeed wherever I have looked - this has been echoed by posters on other sites. Presumably this is because of the double whammy of the band being underappreciated in the history of prog and only very briefly existing in a reunion line-up in the 21st century.

Quite ironic, because on vinyl in the US in the 70s, it was a bargain bin staple. I am sure that over the past few decades I have passed on various CD reissues cheap as chips.

Something to add to the 'look out for' list, then. While enjoying on Spotify until then.

NP yesterday's score from a flying visit to my local secondhand music emporium Rat Records:

1990 Virgin edition, with five bonus tracks, including three which we played on Friday, although in different versions taken from the 1972 retrospective album Autumn '67 – Spring '68

That is very true Rob.

I'm thinking of maybe giving Topographic Oceans another go.

Maybe....

I have really enjoyed it. I have had a copy before - I only just realised it was recorded live.

Here is a great article about the performance from Keith Emerson's website:

It's not all live Chris

The last track - One of those People is recorded in the studio.

This is the original single version - the B-side of Country Pie:

[I think I have the chronology correct]

It swings more than the version on Five Bridges

Quite pleasant in places but too much wibbling jazz for me.

Still on my The Nice kick - I got the updated biography by Martyn Hanson sent me after ordering on-line - very very detailed - takes in various characters - Clapton, Mayall, the Stones, Andrew Loog Oldham, members of Yes, Phil Collins, PP Arnold (obvs), Tina and Ike Turner, Hendrix, Syd Barrett (David O'List once pretended to BE Syd for a Floyd show after the Sydster refused to get on the tour bus because the driver said he could only bring one dolly bird and he had one on either arm), Lemmy.

NP - The (only) Refugee album.

Had a reread of the PSL from last year, and this post. God, I love Me.

It probably shows a bit, I fear. Sorry.

The album cover is a wonder!

Any one of them could be saying 'Thanks for inviting me to your party - these two other guys both said they were friends of yours, I met them on the way up and just wanted to check with you...'

I know what you mean.

I love them both

Their best two albums without a shadow of doubt.

I always go for Nursery Cryme though - but it is always very close

NP third time this week.

I can now understand what folks mean when they say ELP was a po-faced waste of talent (and electricity!)

It's not really saying much about his 80's work though is it C. as most of his work from that decade was pretty poor? No doubt about it though it was his best 80's work. With this album he found his muse again.

I was a total Neil Young fanatic from about 1978-1998.

That album came at the height of my appreciation for the man. Having said that, it was a high point after a bumpy ride. Landing On Water was a dreadful album, but the subsequent tour with Crazy Horse was amazing. Life was a better listen, with some good tunes, but a bit lightweight.

Don't miss the career upturn EP released before Freedom, Eldorado:

Image

Eldorado has three Freedom songs in different mixes, including an extended version of 'Don't Cry'. Two other tracks, 'Cocaine Eyes' and 'Heavy Love' only appear on the EP.

If Neil Young albums did bonus tracks, they would be the best bonus tracks in the world.
