Olivia Newton-John RIP

Postby Limpin' Jez McKenzie » 08 Aug 2022, 21:29

Transformed her career by appearing in Grease, then transformed it again with the proto-Madonna “Physical”, she had a golden voice. If you ask me, her version of “If not for you” is definitive. She will be remembered for plenty of hits, lots of great songs, and the tightest of tight trousers.
I kept thinking "swim as far as you can, swim as far as you can".

A good portion of her early-to-mid-70s MCA material was excellent. Was a guilty pleasure for this fan (at the time) of Uriah Heap and The Velvet Underground.

Her early albums contain songs by The Band, Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Rush, Kris Kristofferson, Don Mclean, John Cale, Gerry Rafferty, George Harrison, Lennon/McCartney, Russ Ballard, Brian Wilson, Albert Hammond, Eddie Cochran, Dolly Parton, and others.

And she has a gorgeous voice - give the early stuff a listen.

Farewell, Olivia.

Very sad.

She covered John Cale? Please, please tell me she did a version of Rosegarden Funeral of Sores!
