It's the Tull album I played the least.

It sits uncomfortably between This Was and Aqualung both 5 star quality.

No really memorable songs.

Every Tull album up through TAAB is commercial enough for non-prog ears.

For years it was my favorite Tull album, and I think it probably still is. Others have spells of being played more (particularly Stand Up, TAAB and APP), but Benefit speaks to my soul in a particular way that no other album does. (Not a fan of "Sossity", though!)

It's not in my top 5 of JT albums, and neither is it in Mr. Anderson's.
Simply doesn't weigh up against the first two and half of Aqualung.
Much better than TAAB though, but that's stating the obvious.

Mid 70's is a bit of a wide margin, for me

I'd like to add: whatever they were feeding the lads at the Chateau d'Isaster, it helped them create their best stuff, I think.

Yeah, aside from "Cold Wind To Valhalla" (and "Summerday Sands" if we'll allow that), I don't love it or even like it much.

But I haven't ruled out the possibility that it might one day "click" for me. Whereas I've given up holding out any such hopes for TOTR'N'R:TYTD!
