RIP Arno

Postby Walk In My Shadow » 23 Apr 2022, 18:03

Arno or Arno Hintjens passed away today. He was 72 years old and suffered from pancreatic cancer.

Some of you may know him from Tjens Couter, T.C. Matic or solo.

He was a Belgian institution and often sang in Flemish, French and English all in the same song.

RIP

Indeed. They had their very own sound.

I love his stuff very much, whether he sings in English or French.

A very good friend of mine who was a HUGE Arno fan lost his own fight against cancer last night, as well.

The synchronicity amazes me no end.

RIP Mr. Hintjens, RIP Pierre!!

Love TC Matic, also his solowork (Charles Et Les Lulus). Certainly he was a tegendraads character, punk avant la lettre.

Just one day after Jan Rot too. Sad days.

The grim reaper has been pretty active amongst Dutch-speaking musicians this past week: Apart from Arno we had to say good-bye to Jan Rot and the "Sting of the Netherlands", Henny Vrienten of the band Doe Maar, which was hugely popular in Belgium and The Netherlands during the 80s. Both had been ill for some time. And I don't think it was mentioned before (but could have been): Golden Earring broke up after it got announced that George Kooijmans has ALS. This week they play the "Royal 500" on Dutch Radio (27/04 was "King's Day"). The best 500 songs ever by Dutch artists as chosen by the people. I'm listening to it as I'm typing this (the wonders of the internet). It's not been announced but I bet Radar Love is #1.

After Vrienten, don't you think it may be De Bom?
