Goons like this?
I remember hearing this on OGWT back in the day and I may have even bought the single. I liked it anyway.
Fast forward a long time and, for some reason, I had it in my head that it was by Clifford T Ward. Unsurprisingly I could never find it until it popped up as a suggested track on Spotify.
No idea if I only like it out of nostalgia or what, but I'm pleased to meet it again.
I have no desire to hear anything else by Duncan Browne, but are there any fans here?

Not sure if I classify as a ‘goon’ - C. will confirm, but for me this is pleasant, without being anything special.

Re: Goons like this?
I love it
The guitar picking, the bass (which isn't) and the handclaps and the synths are all fabulous.
I'm not so wild about the vocal but I don't dislike it

I think I was just learning to play guitar when I saw him play it on the telly and I was pretty blown away. I remember that's what impressed me most at the time.

Erm, the track in the first post. The whole point of the thread.

I'm not sure, but I suspect it started life as an insult, probably from Coan, and got taken up as a badge of pride.

My ears are fucked but I can't hear any handclaps.
It's annoying, because, now that you mentioned it I think there should be handclaps and I keep listening for them and missing them when they don't appear.

Re: Goons like this?
From the lad's second album. I have this and the one before: Give Me Take You
I recall that Suzi Quatro did some backing vocals.
This track made the charts I think.
I like it - particularly the handclaps
I saw him live on John Peel's Show circa 1971/2 supporting somebody like Budgie I think.
I admit his voice is a bit of an acquired taste - a bit like Al Stewart in that 'prissy' folky style.
Robust stuff nonetheless.

It sounds like a McCartney White Album track.

Handclapping detected at 1:30.
Started pleasant enough, tapered of half-way, couldn't make it until the end.
A mean picker, though.

There's a big difference between kneeling down and bending over
