Another shout out for Billy Higgins, so good at so many jazz styles from the '50s onwards. Idris Muhammad should be in this here thing too.

Every single person mentioned here is pretty much a drum deity, and undeniably so.

Jack DeJohnette is one who i have grown to love immeasurably. At the beginning i thought he was more just a fusion drummer, but my ears were opened by sessions like this with Jackie McLean and Lee Morgan. Just listen to his work here, it's just extraordinary to me. He's like a polyrhythmic octopus at the drum stool.
