Prefer the earlier albums generally and didn't fall for this at all on a cursory listen about 40 years ago. Am enjoying it a lot more than I expected too, noticing more details in the background, though I can hear why my more younger self found it a bit too smooth/easy listening.

I’m of the same approach.

Save some
Just save some
Won’t you save some for me

Oh, I felt so crazy when I read your little letter
Saying you were never coming home
Every day I wake up, now I feel a little better
Cos the way I live I’ll never be alone.

Save some
Try to save some for me
Oh Won’t you save some
Please save some for me.

I told my friends about us, and the way you feel about me
Through your teeth with every second word
I felt you like Ophelia in a repertory failure
Demented in a theatre absurd.

Oh but I saved some
You didn’t get it all, ’cause I
Save some for me
Yes, I save some
Ooh tell you, I save some for me.

Should you read about me when you read your silly papers
Just pretend you never knew my name
Should I ever feature you when you
Talk to your, talk to your, talk to your neighbours
Tell them that I never played the game.

Cos I saved some
You didn’t get it all
Cos I saved some for me
Oh yes, I saved some
(I cheated on the side)
Yes I saved some for me.

Yes I saved some
You didn’t get it all, didn’t get it all

Just a little bit, just a little bit for me

Well, very glad to have heard that, much, much better than expected. Very much appreciated the comments, enjoyable, informative, comedic, heartfelt, they really make the experience.

Have great weekends, take care.

Lovely evening - have had a great time, favourite album. I am working tomorrow, but have Monday off, going to go down the Hundred club for some prog.

Soft Machine.

Oh yes.

And you said we were goin' out
To the Hundred Club
Then you said "It ain't my scene"
Then you turned up alone
Then you turned up alone
Deny - you're such a liar

To absent friends.

Soft Machine? Blimey. Isn’t it great that bands like that from the 70s are still going! Today I could go and see Steve Hackett or Jethro Tull within 15 miles of my house and Caravan are playing in a few weeks time too. Who would have expected that 50 years ago?

I’m really sorry I missed this as Grace and Danger is one of my favourite albums.

Fans of Johnny Too Bad should check out the 12” version which has added horns and dubby bits going on.

Also, Bunny Wailer does a good version on his Protest album.

If you like John Martyn you could do worse than to check out a couple of albeums by my friend Fraser Anderson: Little Glass Boxes and Under The Cover Of Lightness. The JM influence is fairly obvious but Fraser is a great songwriter in his own right.
