Interesting, relatively unknown, fellow.

Major Lee Hazlewood connection.

Just discovered this one recently - b-side of "The Fool"'s follow-up:

RIP. "The Fool" is one of my favorite tracks ever - I know lots of musicians loved it, including Macca. There's a remake from '65 that's great too - pretty close with even more blistering guitar. This'll make me dive a little deeper.

I actually first heard "The Fool" on a mid-'80s Richard Thompson (solo acoustic) bootleg - it was a terrific version.

Here's the re-recording:

According to the poster of this vid (as well as a few other sources I've seen), this is Waylon Jennings on the blistering lead. Not seeing that confirmed anywhere, but it certainly could be true...

The hit version (see above) has Al Casey credited on the label. This ay be an alternate version, I suppose.

Just listened to it. Interesting. Waylon was in Phoenix at the time. I'm unaware of any dealings with Hazlewood, but it was a small town.

Same way Carl Perkins got his name on “Matchbox,” I’d guess. Tampa Red’s lawyers were derelict in their duties.

YouTube coughed this up the other day - a terrific honky tonk song that I'd previously heard by... The Coasters and Johnny Winter (not together!). Turns out the song goes back to '57; Sanford's version is from '67. It's a great one.
