The independent label Cherry Red has acquired Joe Meek's Lost Tea Chest Tapes and will be releasing tons of unheard tracks forthwith. All told, it's 67 crates containing nearly 2000 reels of previously unheard tracks by 1960s acts.

Cherry Red is very good for this sort of thing.
They'll probably release a triple cd with artists who became famous later on with some unknowns thrown in for good measure.
Perhaps Meek wasn't a Spector like genius but he did shake things up.
Good call.

I'm generally leery of such endeavors (remember all those Marc Bolan cast-offs that Edsel flooded the market with in the nineties?), but this sounds genuinely fascinating. I'm sure that the vast majority of the tracks will be crap, but there should be some gold there too. And even some of the crap might be really interesting.

Meek is mostly good, although I don't care much for the "I Hear a New World" album.

That's the one thing (aside from "Telstar", of course) that I unqualifiedly love!
