Haven't got that many beach music comps, but now I am considering a very tasty one from an obscure indy label called Ripete: "Grand Strand Gold - Fourteen Beach Music Classics". This release from 1984 is a nifty V.A. compilation of classic summer hits, big and small. If you are wondering what this "beach music" is, think a summer hit like "Under the Boardwalk". That is beach music for you. Music like Drifters, light and airy, with songs that are sweet and catchy as hell.

Re: Beach Music
What’s the modern equivalent?
Light euro pop with an insistent disco beat.
I don’t like it, but what I’d give to lay on a beach and be assaulted by that stuff now, after 2 years without a summer holiday.

I'd give beach music more credit tham that. Drifters are top shelf.

Oh, absolutely! The old stuff is great.
I mean the modern-day equivalent. Zero quality, but ubiquitous on beaches/shops etc every summer.

Re: Beach Music
I thought Beach Music was a quirky local genre like Northern Soul---records that were popular 50 years ago in east North Carolina.

Re: Beach Music
Interested enough to find the music on the album shown, it isn't quite what I expected.
The Catalinas – Summertime's Calling Me
General Johnson & The Chairmen – Carolina Girls
Second Nature – Who's That Guy
The Embers – I Love Beach Music
The Fantastic Shakers – Myrtle Beach Days
Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs – Stay
The Showmen – 39-21-46
The Tymes – Ms. Grace
The Drifters – Little Red Book
Chairmen Of The Board – Give Me Just A Little More Time
The Georgia Prophets – California
The Tams – I've Been Hurt
Freda Payne – Band of Gold
Jimmy Liggins – Boogie Woogie King
Undoubtedly some great pop/soul music - Stay, Ms. Grace, Give Me Just A Little More Time, I've Been Hurt, Band of Gold and Boogie Woogie King for sure, but I don't see a stylistic link other than that. Finding it hard to justify calling it a genre, as the spread of styles is too great.

Re: Beach Music
funny as a beach bum I've got several mixes of beach songs but have to admit I get the whole 60's beach songs love I've got none of them on my playlists except for a beach boys song or two. Looking at the list of songs and flowers list I find too many of those are just summer songs and not beach songs.

Re: Beach Music
They don't have to be beach songs to be beach music classics.
