Four Seasons and The Beatles

Postby GoogaMooga » 23 Apr 2021, 18:13

Only two pop-rock bands in the US could compete with The Beatles and the British Invasion in the 1960s, Beach Boys and Four Seasons. It is well known that Beach Boys were competing with the Beatles, but how about Beatles and Four Seasons. How did each band feel about the other? Were they in competition with each other, did they even listen to each other's records?

The above was probably put together by a marketing man at the record company.

Did any of the two bands get to see a penny, I wonder.

I can't imagine anyone was fan of both at that time.

My favourite Four Seasons song is Walk like a man.

Mine too. Put to good use in the film, "The Wanderers".

Mine is "Rag Doll".

Yeah, Vee-Jay had the rights to the first Beatles album and first couple of singles - for a very limited time, before Capitol decided they wanted them after all - and they had The Four Seasons. They were just trying to squeeze as much $$$ out of the Fabs material as they could, while they could.

As GM will be aware, there was a "friendly" rivalry between The Four Seasons and The Beach Boys - as evidenced by the fade-out here:

(I think there was a response from The Four Seasons - or maybe they started it, even - but I don't know their "deep cuts".)
