Yeah I love it, it's Winwood at his most soulful. Never saw the connection with 'Sympathy..' before though.

Also an undeniable influence on "Your Time Is Gonna Come" by LZ. Same riff!

good spot quack-o. no wonder that's my favourite LZ track.

That album was still "sixties" -- organ, actual singable melodies, harmonies even. Nice to see you SS!

I hadn't spotted any of those connections. I was lucky enough to be at the gig for this live version

MessIyah wrote:Beggars Banquet owes so much to this track. Richard stole from it unashamedly and constructed Sympathy for the Devil from the guitar lick. You can even see him playing the main guitar riff during rehearsals in Goddard's One Plus One.

Anyway, what a track from a sadly under-appreciated album on BCB.

Rejoice and savour this Friday evening.

Think I mentioned this on a Traffic thread over on Hoffmans before, definitely agree with it being a take from Traffic, I didnt know which came first. to be fair they changed it enough not to be a lawsuit. Both are great.

Yes, that's the first musical connection that would have come to my mind.

Love it. But I love the whole of the album too; the sound on tracks like 'Paper Sun' and 'Heaven Is In Your Mind' is just a joyous wonder.

I was sure it featured somewhere in the Glastonbury Fayre film but haven't watched it for ages. Sublime song.

So for your face I have exchanged all faces,
For your few properties bargained the brisk
Baggage, the mask-and-magic-man's regalia.
Now you become my boredom and my failure,
Another way of suffering, a risk,
A heavier-than-air hypostasis.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Speaking of "Dear Mr. Fantasy", I'm reading in an old Beat Instrumental magazine article about the recording of the Mr. Fantasy LP. They mention a few songs by name: "Dear Mr. Fantasy" (describing how it was recorded live in the studio), "House for Everyone", "Paper Sun", "Hole in My Shoe", "Mulberry Bush" ... and a track called "Imagination". I can't figure out what this is! They describe it as starting with just an acoustic guitar track, then adding organ and flute, so maybe it's another name for "No Face No Name No Number", but I can't say for sure. Any ideas??
