LMG wrote:I am game if others are. Not sure about voter turnout, however.

If we do, might there be funds available to prepare and distribute commemorative awards to the winners?

Caravan, for instance, are currently on tour, and I can easily imagine myself joining the current line up onstage for the encore at the 450-capacity Fleece in Bristol, explaining to the audience that I am there in my official capacity as member of the Prog Illuminati and Doyen to present the band with their award recognising their 11-20 placing in the Prog Premier League, as voted by the members of Black Cat Bone, the surviving message board of Mojo magazine readers.

One foresees a tearful Pye Hastings accepting the award to warm applause, and explaining gratefully that although the band never achieved very much in the way of sales or chart placings, the belated recognition of a BCB award makes up for this slight in so many ways. He might also mention that their merchandise stall has available replicas of the award for sale, as well as copies of the band's recently released album It's None Of Your Business and a selection of live offerings from recent tours.

They would then launch into a spirited rendition of (hopefully) something from one of their first three albums.

All this assuming they actually do win a placing in the second ten, of course.

:D

Caravan might just squeeze in, perhaps 19th or 20th.

:D

Rush are hugely successful and influential. Much more so than ELP in my opinion

Okay, I’m happy and willing to continue if others are, it’ll be interesting how many votes come in.

So, here it is then, vote for the next ten placings 11-20, still on the same basis, influence and importance to prog and try and rein in the temptation to go just with favourites, although I warrant that will be harder at this stage.

It goes without saying but remember not to vote for any of the top ten and make sure they are in order 11-20.

So as this might take a little longer, I'll extend the deadline time to next Saturday 23rd October 1:00 p.m. GMT.

To keep things balanced, although it probably won't make any difference, I shall award the points as before to each of the two groups of five in the ten.

As before, votes to be sent to me by PM only, nothing else will be considered and you are voting for the next 10 placings (11-20) in the Prog Premier League.

Whenever you're ready.

They were certainly teetering on prog, perhaps they were prog before prog? Definitely inventive enough in their arrangements and their choices and variety of instrumentation.

Surprised to see no mention of Nektar on these list?
Is this another band you people don't think is prog?

They certainly were, perhaps not that influential or important to the world of prog though.

Yes, that's my view on Nektar too

I don't think they helped themselves by taking a German name.

Folk actually thought they were German which conjured up 'krautrock' which wasn't always a progressive fan's love....
