As you suggest my friend - I found it too derivative of the real thing - Genesis

There you go Matt.
(But tbf he did indicate he liked Jester and Misplaced Childhood.)
Even the God of Prog here at BCB gets it wrong sometimes, it seems. LOL
I'm always surprised you guys can find anything over a year old with the search function...

It's true I do much prefer Genesis but I have then first four Marillion albums and I like them.
The reason I like them is they are so derivative but they make music that Genesis should have made post-W&W before they went all soppy!
An impressive bit of searching Bob!!

All I did was search Marillion on this thread and it was on the 1st page! Can’t have been that long ago I guess.

Re: REAP CORNERe is fine for
NP
Think I’ve got most of his worthwhile albums but this one is fine for a grey Sunday afternoon. Was never a fan in his heyday but have grown to like much of his work since.
Saw him live at Folkestone Leas some years ago, wasn’t quite sure what to expect, still don’t know if I enjoyed the gig. I think I did but the jury is still out. Pretty sure it was his prattling on about rubbish - sorry new age lifestyle stuff, that sowed and continues to sow the seeds of doubt. The music was just fine however.

I’ve played it twice but was distinctly underwhelmed - I thought it was not a patch on the last three and a bit of an unfocused sprawling mess!

Renaissance - Ashes are Burning
I like it, but not as much as Turn of the Cards. Still, Renaissance were a find for me this year.

Guddal and Matte.
1. The Fountain Of Salmacis (7:59)
2. Mad Man Moon (7:26)
3. Can-Utility and the Coastliners (5:52)
4. One for the Vine (10:47)
5. Down and Out (5:10)
6. Duke's Travels (6:21)
7. Evidence of Autumn (5:23)
1. Me and Sarah Jane (6:33)
2. Seven Stones (4:58)
3. The Lamb lies down on Broadway (5:15)
4. The Battle of Epping Forest (11:09)
5. Blood on the Rooftops (5:30)
6. Eleventh Earl of Mar (7:25)
7. The Cinema Show (11:10)
Quote from STEVE HACKETT:
"Genesis For Two Grand Pianos is an ingenious and thoughtful project delivered in a virtuosic style reminiscent in places of Stravinsky's work for two pianos. It seems as if classical hands have firmly grasped the torch originally lit by a rock band who often looked to music's roots in the first place. Genesis' largely keyboard based tunes are cleverly reduced to their constituent parts most effectively to my mind and in some cases have only gained in this unique interpretation."
