The passion of Demis Roussos

Postby GoogaMooga » 23 Sep 2021, 10:27

The kaftan-clad colossus from Greece, Demis Roussos, was a very special singer. We don't talk about him nearly enough. He gave prog a good name with his first band, "Aphrodite's Child", though I was always wary of buying the double concept album, "666". My way to go there was the comp with the toddler and the broken violin. Fabulously demented stuff. "Rain and Tears" was their first big hit, and it set the template for all the Demis Roussos that followed: long, plaintive paeans to love and devotion, sung in a semi-operatic style. As a solo artist, he was all over the radio with "Forever and Ever" back in 1973. Dreamy stuff that was impossible to resist. Demis Roussos vibrato'ed his way into our hearts like no other loverman at the time. Can you hear the wind?

"666" was heavy stuff indeed.

I was too superstitious.

The Passion Of Demis Roussos

Mel Gibson's most underappreciated film.

Watch this - it's wonderful
