a decent list, I can't quibble too much with that except for the absence of Steven Wilson obviously

Jan Akkerman at 16. I stopped there!
Justin Hayward- great....?
On a serious note it’s contains plenty of the old boys so that’s fine by me.

I've never regarded Hayward (or Pye Hastings for that matter) as a particularly great guitarist so there are a few dubious nominations. Anthony Phillips should have made the list. It was nice to see Peter Banks included though, I really like his playing.

I agree on all points Ray
What about the Wishbone lads - are they prog?
Or the couple of axe men that played with the Softs?
I’m not thinking early SM

Howe, Fripp, Hackett, Akkerman my top 4. Trower isn't prog.

NIce to see Fripp at #1 don't think I've ever seen Fripp on a list at #1.
Andy Latimer and Jan A need to be higher.
I get the lack of John McLaughlin and Allan Holdsworth because many consider them jazz but both would be on my list.
Where the F is Roye? others missing Ed Wynne, Daevid Allen ( not the best tech guitarist but style, but his use of glissando guitar puts him in a list in my book)
Nice to see Franco Mussida on the list.

Not a view shared by most prog goons I would suggest....

And those prog goons should be thrown to the wolves. really they had to list three Yes guitarists?
Fusion guitar falls under the prog window

Agreed - any decent prog goon, worth their salt, would agree
Either I have misunderstood you or vice versa
Probably the former

i'll take issyew with justin hayward not being a great gweetarist. i've seen him live many times, and if you think all he does is strum an acoustic, you are very wrong.
i think it's a decent list, actually. no, didn't need more than steve howe for yes... happy for the fripper, though.

I never look at these things because they are usually idiotic.
Fripp can be nothing but No.1
Toss up between Hackett and Howe for No's 2 and 3.
The rest I don't really care about.

Re: The Greatest Prog Guitarists: An Essential Top 25 Countdown
I'm surprised they put Trevor Rabin so high considering he was involved with the least Prog line up of Yes and his solo work cannot be described as Prog on any level.
On the upside it's good too see Mike Oldfield rated so highly. Usually catagorised as a multi-instrumentalist but it's on the guitar that he really shines and has produced some of my favourite solos and acoustic pieces.
