What time-zone are you in, Geoff? (By the way, Griff is now in receipt of your book, but don't expect feedback in the near future, as he's just bought Simon Reynolds' "Rip It Up And Start Again", and will be unable to get past page 442 for quite some time as he gets a namecheck there! And in the same breath as Wylie, God help us!)

May 7th:

1977
Wayne County & The Electric Chairs
University Of London Union, Malet Street

2005
Cream
Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Gore

I've said it before, but Wayne County. in my opinion, was one of the best live acts around at this point. Top stuff!

Only one more to go........

PS: Kidding about The Albert Hall.......

..given that this was supporting David Bowie as he was just embarking on the original Spiders From Mars tour. And that's the point. From a darkened stage, suddenly the place was lit up incandescently, as the band launched straight into "Suffragette City", which sort of grabbed you by the throat, and never let go. It was honestly one of the most powerful performances I ever saw. He was light years away from the tentative performer I had seen back at the BBC the previous year, and of course the Ziggy persona was simply mind-blowing. You really need to understand how absolutely different he was from everything else going on at that time. And given my own musical proclivities at that time, my night was made perfect when he did "I Feel Free", which, given activities currently on show at The Albert Hall this week, is a nice touch!

It's when you go into nights like this Pete that I really envy you - Bowie, just before the balloon went up!
Fabulous.

Wreckless Eric

A bunch of us from these boards went to the 12-Bar to catch Wreckless Eric. Extremely rewarding!

I didn't check in all the time Pete - but it's been a fantastic trip.

Let's get this in 'Classic Threads' straight away, shall we?

Fantastic stuff really.
It was raining when we drove up the two-lane highway through the long tunnel of trees that led into the black district on the south end of St. Martinville.

Congrats Pete, I remember you showing some of us your gig book at a Leeds JU many moons ago.

I think we should get this thread moved to Classic Threads soon, so it doesn't get deleted by accident.

The next thing is to add this to the Classic Threads section, before it gets lost. Is there an administrator in the house?

Though not in the same league as Pete's Magnum Opus, Radio 2 are repeating the superb 'A to Z of the Beatles', on the Brian Matthew Sounds of the Sixties show on Saturday mornings from 8am. It is also a mammoth task, as Brian plays just one a week! (He is in his eighties so by embarking on this, he shows his intention to work for at least another four years!) So far we have covered A Day in the Life, A Hard Day's Night, A Taste of Honey, A shot of Rhythm and Blues and Across the Universe. I am attempting to get it all on mini-disc. (If anyone is interested?)

I'm actually considering doing something like this myself, but it's only been in the past few years I've kept records of what actual date I saw films on. So it'll probably be years before I can do much about it...

If anyone's remotely interested, I have added an update to August 26th's entry. I may have another for today, later. Oh, this is on page 9, by the way.
