A really has nothing to set the place on fire, does it? some really interesting choices, but....

one thing is for sure: A has remained true to its freaky variety school, mwhaha. B is the more solid list, but i must admit that the additions were underwhelming for me. just as i must admit i had much fun listening to A's.

that'll sway me today.

Devo really did turn to shit after their first album. Was Hank Snow the guy who played the shoeshine boy in Police Squad? Wicked hair, which almost makes up for the shit song. I'm liking the bit of Bollywood though, great voice. Ugh, after that, it's a car-crash of untold proportions.

Velvet Underground went to complete shit a bit slower than Devo, but thanks for reminding us that it did happen. But I think B has just knocked it out of the park with Autechre and the Bush Tetras. Talk about saving the game late in the day.

A may have been put together by a childrens' TV presenter. There is a bit of fun but far too much wackiness there.
B is another list that doesn't do anything outlandish to grab the attention but which would get nods and thumbs up if it came on the stereo.

A relies a lot on fun novelty tracks, which I have no argument with. A lot of nice stuff there. I really love Hank Snow doing "I've Been Everywhere."

But B has some stuff with real staying power. Dion is such a versatile artist, capable of being credible in different styles. Jacques Dutronc grows on repeated listenings. Betty Davis is highly underrated. Joni's "Coyote" is a great song. The Darrell Banks is fantastic. "Rock and Roll" by the VU is inarguable.

It has to be B.

It's still B, which is one of my favorite lists despite adding a few missteps (that Black Star is a curious choice and Autechre seemed to just go on and on and on). A would have kept up had they not wasted the new picks trying to be clever.

a double meh, on the whole...

in other words: if this post isn't edited in time, it means: abstain

A starts pretty well . The guitar on the El Vez is still a thing of wonder, But therefter it's slim pickings. The Peaches track is laughably bad and whilst I do have time for a bit of swing a la Andrews Sisters, the cover of Heart of Glass is just pointless. Is it better than Blondie? Clearly not, so why pick it.

B does plenty to rub me up the wrong way. THe Oh so BCB friendly double whammy of VU and Bowie is usually enough to lose my vote, but Joni and Wally Badarou just about drag this one away from an abstain.
