A is taking no prisoners.

Or votes.

Portion Control were good until the angry man started shouting, and Alice Donut are OK but nothing amazing. Roots Manuva has done much better.
The Art Ensemble is very underwhelming. Is it supposed to be experimental or avant-garde? They just sound like they're mucking about a bit while waiting for the bandleader to appear.
Moor Mother and Frank Alpine were kindred spirits: neither as scary, intense or impressive as they presumably think they are. Coil show them how it's done: they don't sound like they're trying to be dark or underground, it just comes naturally.
Mariee Sioux and Tom Paxton are very pretty.

Thing is, B is a bit too alt-rocky on the whole, and some of it is weak music mag-fodder (Wilco, Angel Olsen). A couple of decent picks: I prefer Childish Gambino rapping (or acting) but the music is pretty groovy, and I liked Big Thief.

I am going to vote for A for the hell of it, despite rubbishing half the list. B just needs to try harder.

I like the Big Thief track, that's quite nice and bimbling. Goes nowhere, and does it well. I prefer The Mission's "Like a Hurricane", by a country mile. Guided by Voices are uncomfortably generic. First time I've ever heard a Wilco song, I think. I'd have expected something better, given how good Jeff Tweedy's cover of Jandek's "Crack a Smile" is. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYoUu3_gjjY

I'm not sure why there's so much surprise about Tom Paxton on that list. It almost had Peggy Seeger on too, but having two tracks with the same name (Spacegirl) looked like an aborted attempt at a theme. Not to out myself, or anything.

Ah well, I tried picking some pop songs for a change, but the tactic didn't work.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I wonder if Donald Glover will become the Kendrick Lamar of this years cup. Obviously when this place of old fuddy-duddys and myself all collectively reach for something new there must be something there, and I think that is true here. Plus B has the almighty GBV which almost always seals the deal for me.

As someone else whose list will also be able to be spotted from space I admire your list even though I preferred the other one.

AEoC notwithstanding, most of A just isn't close enough to my wheelhouse to beat B. That Paxton choice made me sit up though, cheers.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

A. Alice Donut is an inspired choice. Plus I detest GBV with a passion.

Ooh, Drugstore! Very pleased to see them make an appearance.

But B hangs together better for me, plus Phil has been indoctrinating me re Neil Young.

I like A’s Mariee Sioux and Roots Manuva picks. And would possibly like a lot more if I had time to listen to them all the way through.

B

wins it for the last two tracks especially.
