...saw it yesterday, BBC2.

Quite daring for the Beeb, I guess, naked tits and asses being no problem, nor explicit talk about sex variations.

Most older male actors came across as being pretty weird, IMHO. One can guess it's due to a probable dehumanising effect of working in 'the industry' for so long... but to me it looked as if they really showed the long-term effects of cocain and booze. Strange muscle movements, and talking like some machine gun, without too much purpose.

Touching: the young boy and girl who didn't have work experience of note, a couple of scenes each. They were filmed whilst being under the shower afterwards, washing each other. It looked like they really had found some affection for each other.

An entertaining programme, all in all.

I feel very sorry for the performers. That business really chews them up and spits them out. I mean most of them are damaged before, you know.

Well the women seem to do much better financially. It's intriguing that this is a business primarily for men, but the reality is that the male employees (well the performers) usually end up pretty damaged. I'm thinking that there are only a very small number of very successful male porn actors - Ron Jeremy, Rocco Siffredi etc.

If you're interested in the porn industry (as opposed to porn per se), it's well worth checking out the Johnny Holmes documentary that came as an extra on the Val Kilmer Wonderland Avenue DVD a couple of years back. There's also a splendid book called something along the lines of "An Oral History of the Porn Industry"...

I like Theroux normally, but this was pretty dull stuff that didn't add much to the original documentary. He likes to look for the human angle so went to town on the veteran porn actor 'looking for love' story, but it was all pretty rote I thought.

I did not see the first one - which was perhaps necessary to arrive at your judgment.

Will be interesting to see if he is able to make another one in 15 years given that the "industry" - at least in its traditional form as content-producers - is now collapsing faster than the music industry.
