All of them are wonderful. I can't wait for this. 49 Up was fascinating, in the sense that so many of the figures had finally made peace with themselves- most notably Neil, and Tony, in their different ways: one the lost soul, the other gregarious lad. What sets the series apart from nearly all of its descendants is its humanity. As invasive as it is, Apted clearly likes the people, and thinks their lives mean something. It's also interesting how it captures social change without ever mentioning contemporary events and politics. It's a vital work.
It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.

It is an amazing series. In particular in shows how similar lives are in broad terms - the differences are mere detail.

You can get the whole lot on DVD for £30

Yes. Only the first part has been shown (of three, or so my wife tells me). It was well up to standard, and essential viewing. Peter - the ex-teacher who rather gauchely attacked Thatcherism in 28 Up - was back this time. He's now a civil servant whose chief interest is clearly playing in his (faux) Americana band.

I'm excited about this as pillowz and I are currently working our way through from the beginning. 28 Up is next, so by the time we've watched all the others, this might be viewable in the states.

So whose math is dodgy? isn't 49 years forward from 1964 (56-7) 2013?
