Euro 2012

Fitba' crazy, fitba' mad. But mostly mad. And angry

Euro 2012

Postby Bleep » 29 Apr 2012, 20:01

England are going to get stuffed aren't they?

I hope we get knocked out soon so I can enjoy the rest of the tournament - the Euros always have the highest standard of play of any international tournament, and I'm looking forward to seeing Spain, Germany and a Robben-inspired Holland battle it out.

Yes. Definite dark horses.

I'm going for Germany to win it though.

Looks like we'll have Roy Hodgson at the helm.

I don't see why - England actually have a number of decent players. It's a shame Wilshere is out. But England have some of the best forwards around.

England have 2 or 3 promising forwards and one world-class albeit very inconsistent one. What might be to their advantage is that no one gives them a shot - understandable given that this core of players have been competing since 2004 and been disappointing almost every time. A bit like Chelsea this year.

Surely given that the whole country seems to experience some kind of mass hysteria as tournaments approach, the above first sentence should read "England are going to go all the way and give Johnny Foreigner a damn good thrashing aren't they?"

That's the point - I'm helping to dampen down expectations.

Quarters at best I think - our players will be knackered.

That seems an odd assessment to me - the best forwards around? I'd say it's the other way around - there aren't many teams with worse forwards than England. Midfield, ok, defence, not bad, goalkeeper, very good - but forwards? meh.

It will be interesting to see if Spain can maintain their remarkable form of the last five years with Villa and Torres struggling and the Barcelona midfielders fatigued. Germany do look a good bet and you'd expect the other usual suspects to be threats.
Quarters for England. Should beat Sweden and beat or draw with Ukraine, and might get a point against France though they seem to be back on the up. Will lose a scrappy game 1-0 in the knockout phase.

I was actually being ironic. Quarters at best would seem to be a very realistic assessment
