sleeping in a tent... what do you think? yes or no?

I've only ever slept in a tent once in my life. it was with my kids in the back garden a few years ago. I felt strangely vulnerable and I was glad that I didn't have to get dressed to go to the loo in my house for my morning wee.

I've never been camping. I'm not sure I'd like it.

I love music festivals and usually go to at least one or two a year but I always hire or borrow motor home

Started this in the wrong section? ;)

Generally, no. I always feel uncomfortable. I remember one particular camp when i was with Cubs/Scouts, and it was hammering it down. It was the night Lewis fought Bruno, and we were listening to it on the radio, and i remember the commentator saying "you'll always remember where you were...". And, by Christ, i still do. I hated that camp, and i've never really made my peace with camping since.

I can deal with caravanning (or motorhoming, i expect). There's a solid roof, a passable bed, etc. But tents never appeal to me.

This all said, i have today ordered ... a tent. I'm off to the Leeds Festival, which will be my first nights in a tent since i was last there in 2003. :?

I don't mind the idea of sleeping in a tent too much... it's waking up and not having my own loo and a place to wash my hair and get ready that would bother me more...

I bought a tent got my kids to take to festivals... my daughter and I are giving it a try in the garden tomorrow :)

One of the last times I was in a tent I was that drunk I decided to kneel in the doorway and have a have a piss outside. As it happened I lost my balance and fell head first into the puddle.
Not that keen on camping TBH

I like it but my wife hates it. She can't sleep in a tent cuz she feels claustrophobic and she doesn't want to pee out in the woods late at night. We have a really big tent that I put up in the back yard sometimes and I always say I'm going to take the kids, but I never do.

I should---with a buddy and his kids.

We have a really great campground near us called Big Basin near the coast with huge redwoods. Here are my other favorite campgrounds.

It's about five hours away, but here's where I'd like to take 'em on a big trip

My dad was into backpacking so my brother, me and my dad would go on 20 to 50 mile backpack trips in the Sierra Nevadas. Our favorite trips were in the pleasantly named area of Desolation Wilderness.

I like the idea of being in a tent in the middle of nowhere, it's such an otherworldly environment and nature always feels slightly threatening ..which adds a certain frisson. But I hate having to work out how to erect a tent -it's the kind of thing I'm hopeless at and I vaguely resent people that are good at it.

One of the reasons I love England is the countryside I've seen is so non-threatening and benign!
You better come on down to Austin this June!

I wouldn't say that, you have to be careful in the country because there's a lot of animals wondering around a bit bored..and when they see people they tend to react. I've been chased by a bull, horse and a dog!

I learned how to turn your cheap thin Walgreens sleeping bag into a furnace. Wrap a blanket around yourself before getting into the bag and it doubles your body warmth.

You can add a bear to that list if you keep slagging off Gentle Giant.

Never go camping in bear country with a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Wearing a knit cap helps a lot too.

Exactly. The toilet thing is the biggest drawback.

Haven't done a lot of camping....last time was in 1985. Algonquin Park, here in Ontario. It was exciting lying in the dark, listening to wolves howl.

We went for a skinny dip one afternoon - came back and a raccoon was was rummaging thru our food pack, which we had left in the tent. They love trail mix. DON'T leave your food in the tent overnight.

I think a lot of people nowadays use air mattresses for a more comfortable experience. In the old days we were on the cold hard ground.

These days, room service is my idea of camping.

I'm roughly the same, I like to go camping as long as there's a responsible adult around.
