My name is J___. I am 69 years old and I am unafraid of catching Covid-19.

Good! You should not be listening to anyone telling you that the best way to avoid Covid is to be terrified of it. The best way to avoid it is to learn as much as possible about it, then avoid those situations that increase your risk of being infected. I and a vast majority of my friends have managed to do so successfully so far. Knowledge is key, fear is not.

From what I read a bout of Covid is not worse than a cold or the flu.

Well here's where you have problems. You probably have read a few personal reminiscences from people that think they had Covid and it was no big deal. But I can absolutely assure you that if you've read anything written by anyone that convinced you that you, personally, need to take no mitigation measures whatsoever, that they were either a) deluded; b) a liar; or c) someone that doesn't give a shit whether you live or die.

Quick guess what Trump, the governors of Florida and Texas and Tucker Carlson all have in common besides very publicly scoffing at using said mitigation measures? THEY'RE ALL VACCINATED. Ever wonder why that is?

There are millions upon millions of people that could tell you that it is definitely worse than a cold or flu.

Surely It can't be worse than my chronic constipation or prostate issues for which I pray there were vaccinations.

Very telling. Unless you are completely joking, you are basically saying scientists should spend their time figuring out ways to lessen your inconvenience rather than on public health issues. Good luck with that.

Yes, you absolutely have every right to increase your chances of hospitalization or death by at least 19-fold according to ALL known statistics EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD. But if you're really doing it because you are taking the word of people telling you that your personal convenience is more important than protecting yourself, well...just make sure your personal conviction on the matter is so strong that you're willing to overlook or explain away all the facts that say otherwise.

And if you end up guessing wrong, by all means, look to the people you put your trust in for comfort. I'm sure they'll be only too happy to offer their Thoughts and Prayers.
