Re: PC21- Round 2 Match 5
Much to my surprise I like both of these - I feel like both have bored me in my previous cup encounters.
I think B is the winner, though, simply for throwing in more of the kitchen sink. And gets it done a lot more quickly.

Re: PC21- Round 2 Match 5
I just can't see what all the fuss is with Steven Wilson (sorry kath!)
Derivative claptrap comes to mind - acoustic guitar, phased vocals, tidy tubs and a mellotron - I think that's been done before.
Sorry, thanks foresting, but not for me - meandering and somewhat bland.
Wallenstein on the other hand were none of this things to my old prog goon ears.
It grabs you by the short a curls from the first note - a catchy beat and some nice guitar
ooooofness by the shedloads and a high rating on the bouncebouncebounce-ometer!
One of Germany's finest rock bands of the 70s - four really good albums.
A great track from possibly their best album.
LET's ROCK!

A- Love this track from To the Bone bonus disc. Over the years I've really come around to Steven's vocals and lyrics.
Great production and nice arrangements.
B- nice song and I like Wallenstein (thanks to someone here)
I'll take A newer and more interesting to me even if some think its clap trap

Re: PC21- Round 2 Match 5
I guess Wilson just isn't for me, as nothing i've heard so far has made me think it's better than just ok. This is a good example; an ok modern rock style, like a proggy Nickleback but with an even less enticing singer than the Chad. The Wallenstein track is a bit more lively and alluring by comparison.

I like my modern prog shit to have balls. A typically doesn't possess a pair.
B is busy, busy, busy but its not Jazz busy.

Re: PC21- Round 2 Match 5
I have been exploring Steve Wilson a lot this past year. A year ago I would have voted differently than I will today.
Some fair criticism of A above, much of which I would have agreed with for many years. Incidentally, it is hardly relevant to say Steve Wilson is 'not prog' (not that anyone did, mind). This would be because the man himself makes it clear his solo career is not intended to be considered prog, and in fact he is averse to that term.
One might ask then, what is he doing in the Prog Cup. I fear I cannot answer that. The question, already unasked, must remain unanswered. As the Moody Blues probably said at some point.

I love the sound of A, but as often with Steven Wilson, it's just too polite.

The slick progestry of SW up against the honky tonk-prog of Wallenstein. I like A's choice, going for a bonus track off To The Bone and I like the rambling style of B. Tough one but I'll go for

Wilson's left overs are so often better than other bands best cuts, this is no exception.
Wallenstein rattled along nicely with searing guitar, pub singalong piano and rollicking drumming.

B is delightfully rollicking and put's a smile on my face.
I know Steven Wilson's name more for his remixes of Yes, Tull etc but have never sought out any of own work. This track is very listenable but doesnt grab my attention like B.

Well as you may know I am a big Wilson fan but this didn’t really float my boat particularly.
And Wallenstein are great - but sadly this particular track is not one of my favourites either.
Tough choice to pick a winner from 2 weakish tracks from artists that feature highly in my all-time lists....
