That is my 'field of expertise,' if I have one. With the possible exception of Corp. Whore (and maybe Billy for the Wyrd stuff), there is no one more steeped in this stuff than me. And the response to my absolutely favorite stuff, the very reasons why I'm obsessed with modern interpretations of traditional song? I might as well have served up a Michael McDonald playlist. Absolutely everything I love, dismissed out of hand. My conclusion?

You're all a bunch of cloth-ears.

It's the only logical conclusion.

Go figure.
I love a lot of folk and have a decent selection of it too but I'm not the most knowledgeable on it and yet it's the only Cup I ever won.

If there is such a desire for a redrawn Cup, maybe instead of voting A or B we could give them a rating out of 10 instead. Thereby the highest grossing tracks (total points divided by number of votes) could feature in some sort of play off for extra points....

It seems to often the way when you serve up things that you love the most ! Of course the other thing is that some things take more than more than one listen to sink in, settle, and work their way into your inner being etc etc etc

Yeah, very much so. And sometimes winning is more a matter of avoiding stuff people hate than about finding what they love, since that's always going to be scattershot. So in that respect, I see Fange's point.

I think one reason I'm enjoying this one so much is I'm not so heavily invested in it. Although, wouldn't you know, the choice of mine that I'm most emotionally attached to is currently getting slammed.

You know, I expect my participation may be looked upon by some as some sort of sarcastic, insurrectionist piss-take. But I would just like to assure everyone that I am deadly serious in my intent and have come to win and wipe the floor with the esteemed, upstanding and long-standing Goons. Especially C.

Balls! My plan has been scuppered by my mistake in thinking you Proggers might actually vote for my tasteful and carefully researched choices. I can't believe that you'd vote for the dinosaur musings of someone like, lets say C for example, over the choices of a younger more thrusting, engaging scamp such as myself. Prehistoric indeed.

I hardly know any of the songs in Round 5. This competition has become so much more obscure than when I last entered quite a few years ago. I suppose that’s a good thing.

That is an excellent idea Maarts!

We can do that for this year's Folk Cup

I just can't understand why I am not winning, I think there must be some kind of shenanigans going on, like people voting against my selections, its not on!

This Cup is now officially a Folk cup. There never was a golden (prog) age.

It just gets worse. Round 4 was a dagger to my heart. A draw with a Jazz track. The ignominy!

Can I please ask if you would all vote in these last few ties? Round 5 saw a few very close ties but not everyone voted in them. With the current standings being incredibly close in both groups, every vote counts....

Very true Maarts

It's a shame that a tie in round 5 has only 13 votes where the first round had 17 votes in them. A few more could have swung a result a different way.
