Nice, two Normal Pop Song Length songs. B still felt too long. Nice and kinetic, but it wore thin and didn't seem to have any additional tricks up its sleeve.

A was nice and low-key. Probably more post-psych than prog, but whatever it was, I liked it.

Good match. I like both of these in various ways.

This is good example of one of the most common conundrums the Cups throw up, at least for me - do i vote for the tune that i know and perhaps like a little more but is a safe choice, or do i vote for the tune that maybe i don't like quiiiite as much, but is a newer or braver choice?

I can only go with my gut feel in each situation, i guess. While i enjoyed the sax and overall sound of B, it wasn't quite "wow" enough to beat the lovely melodicism of A. Love that album.

The Popol Vuh track has shades of Focus and Mike Oldfield and is a delightful pick from a wonderful album.

B had a lot of energy and I really enjoyed the punchy sax throughout.

another good match but going with A

Cheery, pastoral, inconsequential noodling or electronic, squonking wig out?
Pass me the acid, man.

PV's best album to my ears - every track is a delight.

Very robust.

Seminally so.

A very fine track selection too

The Comet Is Coming/Summon The Fire - I'm not sure, which is the name of the band...?

The Comet is Coming?

Anyway, it really got my attention!

As the prog goons would say:

Body swayin'
Head noddin'
Foot tappin'

Most excellent - a nice bit of noise (I love a bit of noise me)

It's a brave choice - I can hear some of the quasi-goons now saying: 'this ain't prog'

Of course it is soft lads/lasses - broad church at its best.

It's going to get slaughtered I fear but I love it!

I will investigate further once I have discovered the name of the band

Sorry PV

Love me some Popol Vuh.

But as C says, the second is sprightly and compelling, and we should have more of this sort of thing in general.

Also, I feel I can confidently vote for B without feeling I have contributed to a Popol defeat...

Found this harder than expected, as am partial to Popul Vuh and had never heard of, let alone heard The Comet is Coming. TCiC turned out to be rather fun, but had an irritating rhythmic phrase that was enough to sway to the sublime PV.

A - nice mellow piece of prog

B- what I'm looking for in this contest - refreshing, new, exciting. Love the drum sax vibe.

B was fun, quirky and rife with bouncebouncebounce. majorly cool.

the problem:

A is, well, see mr. boom's comments.

i don't really have a strategy in my track-pickin. i go with whatever i love the most.

and i've loved the match-ups so far. mwhaha. i am such a sap. i'm sure i'll get around to calling you all flaming bastards.

Well I’m not familiar with either track - A is pleasant, B less so.

A would be nice background music, B definitely not.

But B is interesting and a bit different which A isn’t.

I’m torn.

I put A on my BCB-Cup list a few years ago...I always love the more gentle vibes Florian conjures on his albums because they are so amiable yet well constructed.

But that Comet-track streaks across the sky and has a little morning greeting of its own....love the cosmic metronomic vibe of this!
