I love the Incredible String Band and I adore Mike Heron's stuff

This is a lovely selection - very nice!

Ane Brun was very nice with a voice the grabbed me instantly - a lovely performance, again really nice!

This is a tough one - very tough

So, with difficulty, B has it

B has it

Even though Williamson is the real talent in the ISB, I have pleasant memories of that star-studded Heron debut. And A has bonus Richard Thompson (I assume) for good measure.

B is a lovely song, but I don't really care for the wispy voice that every folkie female born after about 1972 seems to use.

A doesn't really connect with me, i'm afraid, but B is quite lovely and affecting.

Both nice picks but B just had more immediacy and grabbed me on first listen with its vocal and sweet melody, while I think A is probably more of a grower.

I found B merely pleasant, A on the other hand I rather enjoyed.

Very hard choice - I've played both several times over the last couple of days and having started with a slight preference for Ane Brun swung towards Mike Heron (which got better with plays). Played the Heron again just now & was ready to vote for it, then trued the Brun again.

Brun, with her Partonesque warble just takes it.

A was nice enough without really connecting.... Brun did a nice job channeling Emmylou through this song.

Hmm, return of the disappointing solo release by an ISB-er. It's not as disappointing earlier Robin Williamson effort, because it isn't just a cheap pastiche, but it's also not very good. I think I have to say that there are just too many elements that don't work for me in the folk idiom: electric bass, Richard Thompson's approach to guitar twattery; that tinge of Americana. It's a shame, as Heron's free-wheelin' voice is full of character.

B's very Dolly Parton, with a fairly unoriginal guitar pattern, but it's nicely sung and effective enough. I get the feeling that A was a far better song, but ruined by the arrangement and choice of musicians. Wheras B was a simple unoriginal song, delivered with aplomb.

B
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Never cared for the ISB, and don't like this at all.

She might as well be singing in Icelandic for all I can understand through that warble/vibrato, but it's a pleasant enough amble through a traditional song structure. She didn't have to do much to win, and she has.
