I just traded in three Oysterband albums at Accord, so you'll never guess who I voted for: B

Both marvelous. Good job picking a less typical/obvious Oysterband track.

But it's no match for B, which is an actual folk artist at the peak of her powers.

Enjoyed both very much. Felt the Oysterband's take on on Bright Morning Star lacked a little punch/personality - imagine a Blue Murder or Coope, Boyes & Simpson version, so Odetta with oodles of personality takes it.

Oysterband - I preferred them when they were Oyster Band and shaggy hairies rather than leather jackets and slick haircuts.

That said I have time for the latter too - I saw them live a couple of times way back and they were still good.

This is an interesting choice and not one I would have had the guts to select.

I wasn't too keen.

On the other hand I really enjoyed B - a great choice

Lovely picking and a powerful voice

So, B has it

B has it

Both new to me but I much preferred B, a very nice pick indeed.

One of my favourite Oysterband tracks V's the mighty Odetta. Tough match. IN most rounds either of these would be a winner for me, and its a pity to see them against each other.

In the end, A has some very personal connections for me. And its too good to totally crash and burn.

Well, A starts off much better than the previous Oysterband pick, and that's not even faint praise. Theres a massive improvement when they leave the soft rock trappings behind, it would seem. Yeah, I like this effort, even if it reminds me of something from The Lion King soundtrack.

B seems to have whipped something fairly special out of the bag. It's blues-ish, I guess, but not so much that it raises my hackles, this is proper protest territory, and it has an authentic punch to it. A shame for A, because they chose a pretty good track.

A is the nicest Oysterband pick i've heard so far, thanks picker. Sadly it's up against a track i like even more, so powerful and beautiful.

A: Soaring voices in a reverent reverberate space, biblical. Love the bottomy rumbling of the rumbly voiced bloke. Great choice. Nicely done piece.
B: Odetta

My goodness, that's a tough draw. Both are great.
Just because I got drawn into it, and for something we hadn't had earlier in this Cup....

A has a nice full-fat sound but lacked a certain melodic kick. I would much much rather listen to

Oh goodie, some acappella!

Odetta is too stark for me on this early Saturday morning.

I can only take Odetta in small doses, and sometimes not even then, having been over-exposed to her in the early 1960s, but this is as good a track as I heard from her.
As a lover of doo-wop and gospel I really enjoy small group harmony singing, and records where you can hear the studio, and while no one is likely to mistake the Oysterband for the Harptones or the Blind Boys of Alabama, I'm surprising myself by voting for A
